Theory: Trance is best the year you first discovered livesets (pg. 3)

I think your theory could be altered here. I think you love trance so much in the very beginning and you just live and die trance then you start to realize other music tastes and expand. I don't consider myself a tranceaddict anymore because I'm heavily into all sorts of EDM. I like trance but I like a ton of other genres, I think from the start, you just get addicted, then you expand your habits.

Interesting theory. I discovered a little liveset called "Home at Space in Ibiza" back in '99 and was hooked from then on... :toothless

1999 was the highest and best point that Trance reached. In 2000 there was a wierd change in Trance thus making it worse.
What I'm saying is that the best Trance was created in 1999 and after that it went downhill... Every Trance that was created before 1999 was also amazing though :)

I think the best year is when you discover awesome parties and live music for the first time. Mp3's are all well and good but they don't come close to capturing the experience in person.

I don't think anyone would say that 2003 was the best year for trance, but last year I had more fun going out than any other. I'm not old enough to have experienced the 90's sets cuz I only turned 18 in 2002 and the only paries that would let me in before I was 18 really sucked.

Trance is much better when it still has its novelty I think. Cuz I was a fiend for some music downloads back in the day, I listened to everything I could get my hands on. But when I go back to listen to all my piles of burned CD's I realize that I enjoyed a lot of ty uncreative music. Eventualy everyone starts growing critical though and that really takes away from one's ability to enjoy the partying.

Way ing true. I think it has to do with the fact that in the beginning, youre just discovering trance, and it all sounds so good. But over time you will hear particular dj's you really like, and styles and songs you really like, and start to become biased. Then over time you also learn the difference between good and bad mixing, good and bad track selection and progression, and youll eventually learn most dj's really suck a lot of the time. LOL that was an eyeopener for me, i thought all dj's were awesome, in the beginning, now they have to be AWESOME in one respect or another for me to like them. (hint im biased heavily toward tiesto)

The poor quality is usually true, but the reason ive always been big on livesets is I like to see what the dj will think of playing next. I also like to see how they will mix from one song to the next, and how fluidly they do it, LIVE. Thats the best part, in a sense i can feel like what it was like to have been there. But, in a way, without meaning to, i constantly judge who im listening to, but then again, i also base whether or not i will spend money on a particular dj mostly on what ive heard, which being that i dont live in holland or something, is mostly things ive gotten off the internet. Ive gotten to see some top guys lately, but in the past few years, it was downloads or nothin. I pay no attention to magazing ratings or reviews and crap, nor do i look at flyers or whatever to decide, i download and listen, and then judge from there. Personally i think 2000-2001 was the best year for trance. So much energy, so much intelligence and passion. God i love trance :tongue3

I agree I first discovered livesets in 2001 and that is the best year of trance in my book. No other year has given me the likes of Push - The Legacy, Mirco de Govia - Epic Monolith, Ralphie B - Massive, etc and these were all mixed awesomely in livesets.

i listened to livesets before i ever got singles, the tunes in the livesets were the tunes i got

i've never heard anyone say that trance went downhill in 2000 before
i really liked 2000 and would say its definately the closest theres been to 1999, since 1999

locutox, listing 3 tunes doesn't really prove that a year was good because all but the very worst year will have a few really good tunes
1999 was absolutely flooded with amazing tunes, some of the 'average' tunes from that year would have been among the best in other years, imo

Discovered to joy of live sets around 1995 but consider 1993 to be the best year.

Personally, I'd think the theory should be, the first year you got heavily into trance is the best year. Mainly because everything you stumble across is new and interesting and you haven't grown fully tired of the formulaic versions yet. Also, first year, if you go clubbing (or raving or whatever), is filled with some of the most powerful experiences with music you'll ever have, which I personally think is a very important part.
