i think it was lira or streakfury that brought the idea up. the idea is either to:
1) add a philosophy forum
2) rename the political discussion/debate forum to include philosophy
what do we need to do to get this off the ground?
as mentioned before, i still volunteer to be a mod in said forum. |

i think the best way to go is option 2. i believe there wouldn't be enough activiy in a seperated philosphy forum.
i'm all for philosophy though, comes with very interesting subjects. |

I don't any of the options are necessary. If you want to get a discussion started just start one like Josh4 did on COR. I think its implicit in the name already because politics is power and power by its very nature involves philosophy.
On the other hand, I think it would be a better idea to make the name broader (not narrower). Something more inclusive, like politics, ideas, criticism, analysis, or something similar.
I think the narrow description is a turnoff for some people and a more narrow definition would be a greater turnoff. Make it broader, if anything. |

Reconsidering it, I don't think its narrower (its broader), but I think making it broader would be better. I think adding economics/business is overdue. Maybe "Economics, Politics, Philosophy"? Something along that line. |

I think the discussions can get serious in there depending, of course, on the person(s) with whom you're having a discussion, and the tone the discussion takes, which depends again on the persons involved.
A lot of the commentary in there is too rhetorical sometimes, but what can one do? Changing the title to what you suggest, if you're serious, won't necessarily change the flow of the discourse. I think changing it to be more inclusive of other subjects would be a benefit though. |

| The Political Forum doesn't merely contain political debate. Threads about philosophy, science, astronomy and other "intellectual" topics pop up in there all the time. If there are any philosophical issues you wish to discuss, bring them up in there and I guarantee you that you'll get a decent response (or a better response than you'd get in the COR anyway). |

| "Serious discussion" could be anything, from "My goat ate my younger brother" to "My younger brother ate my goat" :p Renaming it to "Forum of Economy, Politics and Philosophy" seems a tad bit too long (now that Spacey Orange mentioned it, adding philosophy and ignoring economy would be unfair). I first liked the idea of adding something else, but come to think of it, TA would become extremely bureaucratic as more boards (with more complicate names) are created. If there were no other place to post these things, I'd support it, but the political forum seems to welcome threads about Philosophy and Economy. |
