Decision

Ok this sucks. I have to decide between 2 schools.
One is Division I.
I get a full ride from going to division I school.
Problem is I dont even want to play at division I school and its in California(I live in Colorado). Plus, parents are pushing for me to go there.
The other is Division II.
I get most of the school paid for except for the room&board, but I wouldnt stay in the dorm because its 20 min from my house.
Problem is my parents refuse to pay for the extra costs($1000?)and my dad despizes the coach and the program in general and continuously goes berzerk when I mention that I might want to go there more than the DI school.
Im so close to choosing something that I dont want to do just so my parents will STFU for a while, but I can just see how it might suck ass in the long run.
What should I do!? |

hmm that is a big decision... it really should be up to you, no matter what your parents say.
you seem to be inching more to the Division II school so go there. If you go to the California school you'll probably end up hating it because of your preconcieved prejudice.
What sport are you getting the scholarship in? |

I chose the school that my mom and dad wanted me to go to and I ended up really liking it. I guess it depends on how you go into it. Once I decided on Valpo (where Im at now) I just said, ok - this is it and you better make the best of it. If you go into it thinking its going to suck then it will.
That might be over simplifying things but if so then Im not the right person to ask. |

| Soccer. I mean I enjoy playing the sport, but for the past few years it has been controlling EVERYTHING I do. Ive talked with people that say that DII sports are, I dont want to say easier, so how bout less intense and demanding than D1. I just know that if I go to the D1, I will hate it only after a few months of playing soccer there. I still want to play, but just a bit more casually if you know what I mean. |

Yeah you're right, Division 1 schools are more demanding and have a lot harder and tougher schedules. It seems like you already know the answer to which school you want to go to..
I think the real question is how to convince your parents of your choice. |

go with teh full ride. it sucks paying for school, especially when you have to spend so much time with sports on top of homework.
what about majors? have you thought of wtf you wanna do besides soccer? |

why don't you wanna play D1? you don't think you're good enough or something? if you're gonna get a full ride i'd go to the California one just to get away from the parents hehehe :p
ps. go colorado TA's :D
edit: ok i see that you are worried about soccer taking too much time and that's why you don't wanna go D1. I guess all i'd say is that i'd rather take the hit on my time to soccer then to live at home in college...that'd make me more miserable. |

i;de go with the D2 college, a lot of the full rides are partially dependant on your school productivity. If soccer is taking up a whole lot of your time with not enough time to study and get good grades. They may take away the scholarship so that defeats the whole reason you went to that college.
Plus there is nothing wrong with living at home during college, you save that much more money. |

| Every division is competitive. So go with the one you want. Parents should understand. If not, just get yourself a new set of parents. |
