Yes i'm a newbie
I'm wondering what software some of you TA'a are using to create a nice sounding bassline. I'm currently using audiorealism bassline, but I have read several posts and tutorials talking about using a simple sine, triangle wave form? But have no idea how to achieve a nice sound, any ideas??
thanks |

audiorealism bassline is more of an acid machine (because its a roland tb303 emulation). its also limited to 2 waveforms. triangle and square wave i think. its a great synth but it has a very specific purpose.
for basslines i usually use a more generic subtractive synth like albino. i sometimes use the synapse hydra demo which is easier to program and it can produce some quite tight, subby basses (good for off beat basslines). likewise zeta has a very tight, clean sounding bass, particularly suited to sub basslines. the demo keeps fading in an out though but check it out to hear what this machine can do. its complicated as you like though. vanguard is a difficult one to judge when it comes to bass cuz it aliases so much. if you plan on using vanguard for pads or leads then its not such a good idea to use it for basslines too unless you are really clever about it b/c this synth aliases like you wouldnt believe and severely muddies the extreme lows and highs in the process. |

I use albino as well. The presets are great and give you something to build on. Hydra is nice too. Novation Bass station is also recommended! :)
In my opinion, the key to a phat sounding bassline in Trance is distortion (used sparingly) and the right placement of the bass notes in the groove. If the bass is hitting at the same time as the kick drum, it lessens the effect and creates 'holes' in the beat.
It should look something like this:
KICK.....KICK.....KICK...KICK
.....BASS.....BASS.....BASS....BASS
Or something like that. Just a couple of tips. Not the absolute rule. |

thats for a very basic bass line.
you can have kicks and bass notes hit at the same time but you have to be careful since these 2 typically consist of alot of the same frequencies. a common trick is to lower the velocity of the bass note when it hits at the same time as a kick drum (called 'bass ducking') |

Damn, dude. Go easy on the guy. Be helpful at least (maybe provide a link to the material on the forum you're talking about?). Search functions can be helpful, but are often limited to the vocabulary/thought-process of those who use them. Sometimes you search for something but use the wrong word.
Even if that isn't the case, this thread is doing fine and this guy is not bothering anyone. Why did you have to come and post your off-topic, rude reply? :whip: |

If its i am the one that made you upset i am sorry. And wusing search helps yeah but One cannot just put "How to make a bassline". in the search or "Bassline like Probspot" in the search button and get a magical answer. Sometimes you want to ask a specific quesiton that you want a specific answer from someone that could have figured it our recently.
Take it easy man its a damn messageboard. And for you to take the time out and answer the thread with something completely retarded and unhelpful. Dont post if you dont have anything helpful to say.
Peace |

yes theres no point getting angry about this. i know for a fact that certain little gems like the 'fight against oompa-itis' thread dont show up in search even when you type in the full title. maybe i got some part of it wrong. but someone new to production and this forum is hardly gonna think of typing that in search.
also i am of the mind, that if you cant find it yourself using search, dont tell other people to use search. of course the only way you can tell is if you do a search. and if you find something useful it would be quicker to just post the link in here instead of posting an angry response. it would take less effort too. |
