| Called a few schools. You're right, a bunch DO teach it! Guess i just got unlucky before? Anyway, HOLY IN PRICE DIFFERENCES! Most of the places charge around $100 for 90 minutes, but i found one for 35/hour. At that rate, i can take my sweetass time learning :) |

about 11 years ago is when I learned stick, after having my license for a few years. I took a 2 hour lesson, then picked up my brand new manual '94 Escort (and it's whooping 92hp, LMFAO). Clutch and throttle feel was WAY different than on the older Corolla I learned on, and I was stalling it allllll the time on the way home from the dealership, lol...so I had a neighbour show me how to find the balance point between clutch and throttle, and just drove around practicing for a couple of weeks...it became easy. Now, it's 2nd nature...like breating. I feel uncomfortable and twitchy if I drive an automatic now.
I taught a friend how to drive stick in his new car within an hour or so and he went off and practised on his own and was fine within a couple of weeks too. Just find a parking lot and practise. It's only going from a stop and launching into 1st that's hardest to learn...it's almost impossible to stall it otherwise...although you can grind the gears easily if you get lazy with the clutch.
honestly, it does take a little while to really become comfortable and competent, and every single car is somewhat different. Driving a new compact with little power, a soft clutch, and smooth shift is worlds apart from driving an old muscle car with a heavy clutch, mad power, and clunky shift...but you'll eventually be able to hop into *any* manual car and become totally comfortable within minutes.
Anyone who *really* appreciates driving...drives stick ;) There's nothing sadder than walking by a sweet car...and seeing it's an auto, lol. |

I learned stick on a 2000 Camaro Z28 6-spd. Jesus, what a wild ride at the time that was.
Just wait till you get to doing some heel-toe downshifting in the snow, in a light RWD car, d!abolic. That's awesome fun. Bonus points if the car has no traction or stability control. |

I gotta learn ASAP! Any suggestions? Do any driving schools out there teach it? I asked a couple and they said they would if i had a standard car to learn on, but i don't. |

You have no idea the pain I feel every single day with a 3-speed autotragic transmission. |
