The holidays are coming which means vacation, which means computer games, which means half-life 2 and need for speed and doom3...
my question: can anyone suggest a new video card that will run these games well? nVidia or ATI, it doesn't matter to me, just as long as it doesn't cost that much. around $150. I know I won't have the greatest graphics but, I just want to play. Most new games don't even support my old school GeForce 2 Pro. |

I have a radeon 9800 pro all in wonder and so far, its been spectacular, 229 US dollars and free shipping too!HERE!
This is probably the best card for the money out on the market, and as a bonus it is also a capture card and comes with TV tuner!
For 185.00 dollars, you could get a normal 9800 pro, without the tuner, check it out here! |

Yeah but in two months time the same advice will apply :) You've got to buy one eventually. |

Get a BFG Geforce6800 video card. It's overclocked straight from the manufacturer, comes with a life-time warranty, and costs only $250 (on outpost.com). It will run all the games you listed without a problem. Radeons get owned by Doom 3.
The BFG Geforces are the best cards out right now. I was gonna get this card, but it doesn't have HDTV output support, which I really want, so I'm buying a Radeon 9600XT for now and waiting until BFG releases cards with HDTV support :clown: |

Geforce gets owned by HL2, guess its what engine you like more. I'd still go with the 9800 pro, the 9600 XT is good, but it has half the memory bandwidth because it runs on 128-bit memory. Look at the memory bandwidth on the X800 and the 6800, they are also 256-bit like the 9800 and 9700. BEWARE though, I recently found out that ati released the "9800 pro EZ" which has less performance than the 9600 XT, making it a POS .:D |

yep and they cost....dun dun dunnnn 250 dollars more.
i think alot of people here failed to look at how much he wants to spend, 150 which is exactly what a 9600xt 256 costs. I know its not the best card ever, im personally getting a 6600GT AGP for christmas, but a 9600xt will fit all of his needs, at 150 dollars |

Radeon 9800 pro is 150 - 200 dollars (worth the addition in cash)... But I agree, the 9600 XT will fit all his needs for the price.
Oh yea, the 6600 GT is one really nice card extremely good performance. |
