How does sound travel?

Do not know whether is it a lame qtn to you all but something just strike me up of wondering how the sound travel thru the electric cable aka PIN CONNECTOR?

For example of Pro Tools, M Audio. They had a breakout box to plug in Mic/Line and the breakout box was connected to the PCI in the Mac/PC with the cable and the connector head is PIN CONNECTOR. I was wondering how does the sound transmit from one place to another using the cable with the pin connector.

Anyone know? Just wondering how was it done. Thanks all for reading this. :)

I'm thinking the PIN connector you're talking about is digitial.
In that case, audio is converted from analog to digital in an A/D converter, then sent as binary electrical signals thru the cord to the connector on the other device, where a D/A (digital to analog) converter does its job there. this is the basis in the digital audio transport world. in normal audio, cabling, electrical signals in the form of voltage creat waveforms for devices to manipulate.
