As for the topic itself, the WWE has hit a whole new standard of stupidy with that angle for sure, it will be just another anti-american angle but this time with some real bad taste humour mixed, that won't last for long though, I'm sure, it never does so...

If they were going to do it then the least they could do is make the angle a little more realistic and believable and do their homework.

The whole Nikolai Koloff,Iron Sheik,Sgt. Slaughter stuff was decent and a lot better than what this angle is shaping up to be and it's not like they have some great American hero who would be an ideal rival for this guy the way that Hulk Hogan was or even the way that they turned Lex Lugar into a great American hero against Yokozuna:rolleyes:

Vince Russo is actually one of the worse things that ever happened to wrestling IMO, he began crash-tv with just so much goin' on at the same time, and giving more importance to nudity or stupid angles than wrestling etc.

well that is true, but imo, vince russo is the one that got wrestling to what it is right now with the bare ladies, violent men, and the o-so-popular chants that the audience shout out when a wrestler comes out. yeah, i sometimes do not support his ideas and strategies from time to time .. but i would say that the wwe was better when he was one of their writers.. he certainly has more creative ability than whoever is writing for them .. like isn't michael p.s. hayes writing scripts for them now?

lately, i am in it now more for the story angles than the actual wrestling. consider wrestling a male soap opera for us males.. hahahhaa

Ive made this post a few times, but I knew the WWE (WWF) was really going down hill, around early 2000. They had just built up this incredible story. The Undertaker and his "dark" cronies (The Brood, Viscera, etc) were taking over the WWF. Pay-Per-View after Pay-Per-View, The Undertaker would face someone from Vine McMahon's faction, and time after time, in different types of matches (with little interference, mind you) Undertaker would come out on top. After 2 or 3 of these, Undertaker started talking about how he was not the mastermind, but that there was a higher power he served who would eventually make himself known to the WWF. At this point, the speculation began...who was the higher power? Would they eventually take over the WWF? What was their goal? Then Undertaker himself then claimed he wanted to beat Stone Cold Steve Austin and drive him out of the WWF at the behest of this power. This really got everyone going? Steve Austin was out because of an "injury" (vacation), but everyone wanted to know who the man would be. Was the higher power Shawn Michaels, who notably despised Austin? Perhaps it was Jake the Snake Roberts whose career was ended by Austin a few years earlier? Maybe it was even Chris Jericho, whom WWF had signed, but had yet to make an apperance? Speculation was mad, and no one had a clue.

Finally, it had all built up to Austin's return, a week before one PPV, I think Wrestlemania. He fought one of the UT's cronies and thats when the entire ministry (UT's faction) came out. They held down Austin, and the Higher Power revealed himself to Austin on RAW, setting up a huge PPV battle between Austin and UT. After the mtach, which I think Austin won, but may also have ended because of interference, the Higher Power revealed himself to be Vince McMahon, in what may be the most underclimactic move of the century. I remember when this happened, being so dissapointed and pissed off. I watched WWF for a bit after that, but it was never the same...

wow .. good memory .. you have to remember that was post-vince russo of course .. when russo and mcmahon had issues on where the storylines were going, so russo left (supposedly .. others say he was fired, but everyone has different sources) .. but i think you hit it right on the money .. that was the beginning of the downfall.

I used to watch WWF... then I turned 14.

I still watch, its funny for a bit, and yes I know its fake but it fills a slot on thursday nights (when we get raw), some of the new characters are funny too, eg

Edge
Randy Orton
Chris Jericho
Batista
John Cena
Kurt Angle
Rhyno

and others.

I also think Ric Flair & HBK deserve mentions, purely cos they've proved themselves, yet they still take huge bumps on already ill bodies, when u wrestle not cos u need the money but cos u want to do it, it earns my respect. You can say its fake, we all know it is, but it takes a lot of ability to do half the moves people do, and I don't know many here who could do them themselves
