Lately I've been seeing news refer to Sunni Muslim insurgents. Can anyone tell me why this particular group is fighting and not others?

A) The Sunni minority was treated well under Saddam Huessein with the majority of Baathists coming from that group.

B) They are a minority and consist of 20% of the country. Any representative democracy will significantly favor the 60% Shiites.

Sunnis typically had more power in the reign of saddam hussein even though they are the minority in the country. They comprised most of the high ranking positions in the country, had control of the best neighborhoods, and were in saddam's good faith (comparably). When the US came in, they lost their elite status, the baatists were disbanded, and with the shiites and kurds getting their rightful say in the country, they didn't like what they saw. They were really the only group with less to gain by saddam leaving. Also the area where most of the violence is occuring is the sunni "triangle" area which is formed to the north and west of baghdad.

So I guess Sunni(the majority of the fighters)Muslim(yup they are all muslims)Insurgents(they are fighting people who are in their own country) is technically correct.
