Seriously. I tried it, doing the breath in, breath out technique. So easy to learn.
Then, I suddenly realized my body was completely still. That I was deeply relaxed, no movement except for the steady rising and sinking of my chest. Almost like I was in somebody else's body. The point is I weirdly understood the following;
There's always time. There's always time to just be still and not move, you don't always have to rush everywhere, there IS enough time.
It might seem like a really cheesy piece of enlightenement to you, but if there's more like that to come I've found a new hobby. As a plus, I've been a bit more harmonic today than usually. |

| I meditate often (once a day at least). I found when I first started it drone ambient (music genre for the newbs) really helped...stuff like Pete Namlook - Music for Urban Meditation (great CD, if you want it i can hook j00 up). Tea also helps and can even increase the effects. Now that you know how to do it, do it every day whenever you want, as its really good to do. |

i never tried meditation but i d like to, i am sure i 'll like it, it could be a different way to see the world you live in for a short time, i mean you might feel very different, very special , with a lot of detachment, and i am sure it is a way to feel better in nowadays life.
...and Mickey Mike, go away, if you do not undesrtand a post, do not answer to it then. |

| Go for it, Laughingfennec. Don't bother reading any 'how to meditiate sites', they're dumb. Instead just relax yourself, clear your mind, do not let any thoughts cross your mind, if they do, clear them. Find a comfrotable spot, laying down, sitting up etc. Once you master the tecnique, its great to do daily. There no real way to meditate, but theres loads of ways not to. |

Actually there's nothing wrong with letting thoughts run their route. The more you try and force them away, the harder it will be to focus on your breathing. Just simply let them come and go like a passing cloud, eventually your mind will become less cluttered. |

Yeah, I agree, "forcing" your thoughts away tends to lead to a minmal mental distress, which is exactly what you DON'T need at that time. I know it's a small technicality, but truly meditating (as opposed to just sitting there and breathing) is sort of a delicate thing.
I recently did a research paper on meditation, and came accross this compiled study that gives a LOT of great reasons to meditate. Check it out...
http://www.tm.org/research/summary.html
I meditated last night in my jacuzzi. :D
I turned all the jets off, so there was no noise or disturbance, then I turned all the lights off because the moon was really bright. I sat in a TM position and just breathed for about 20 mins. I didn't force thoughts away, I just ushered them out if they came to me. You know you have truly meditated when you can effectively, gradually, "pull" yourself out - when you are so lost in emptiness and you don't just open your eyes all of a sudden, but you slowly work towards reality once more. That only happens when I contemplete during meditation, which entails thought as well- you don't always have to think of nothingness. I find it best to just sit and do breathing exercises while clearing my mind before/after a good workout - it just eases things. |
