I e-mailed the CRTC to ask them how to start up a small radio station, didnt have time to read about it. Hope I can find something good... It be nice to have a 24/7 electronical music station in Montreal.

CRTC E-Mail::

Thank you for taking the time to contact the CRTC. There is no charge to submit an application to the CRTC but there may well be costs associated with the preparation of any such application. Due to the large number of variables involved, however, it is literally impossible to predict how much this cost might amount to or how long the actual application process might take.

Very generally speaking, you would require a licence if you were operating an station, the signal of which may be heard at a distance of over 30 meters. Here's a link to our Public Notice which deals with certain types of operations which may qualify for an exemption from licensing:

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/2000/PB2000-10.htm

If you read this notice, and decide that your proposed operation qualifies for an exemption, you would NOT have to apply to us for a licence. But you would still have to contact Industry Canada to make sure your station's signal did not interfere with other operations.

Please note: Industry Canada does have different technical specifications for Low Power versus Very Low Power stations. They should be contacted directly for further information in this regard:

Before giving you a brief rundown on our radio licensing policy, I'd first like to draw your attention to our new Community Radio Policy released January 28, 2000:
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/2000/PB2000-13.htm In particular you might wish to examine the section on Developmental Stations, beginning with numbered paragraph 57. We also released a new policy on community-based media in October of last year you might find interesting:

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/NEWS/RELEASES/2002/r021010.htm

Many applications (and all related documents) are already available in electronic format at our web site on How to Apply for a Broadcasting Licence:

I just wonder if other people wanna go into this with me, it be great finally have our own station. Try and get ppl to stop listening to M.C Mario and listen to the real stuff coming out of europe! Even here in Canada get guest mixes.The station would get atleast a good 100 listeners I know not like Mix 96 or anything but it takes time to grow. Even if we can get a good 1000 listeners that would be amazing.

My friend gd, we should have a basic night club opened from 10 - 3, with trance, house, prog and etc. True we sort of have clubs like that but just not totally dedicated to only electronica music, would be nice to have soemthing like that, I dont do drugs so I wouldnt stay up until like 11 am every weekend to get to Aria
