Sigh ... people are getting so lazy in their plagarism nowadays. First off, you never use another essay as your own. What idiot does that? I can't think of an easier way to get busted. The way to do it is to develop your theory independantly. Then find research papers that corroborate your thesis in numerous ways. Ideally, you want 3 or 4 different papers, one for each supporting argument. Then you start pulling specific paragraphs from these research papers and essentially rewrite the paragraph. Since you're stealing ideas from these papers, you don't want to actually cite that paper as a source, so what you do is you cite the sources that the paper you're stealing from cites. If the professor looks into it, everything checks out, because it appears that you're developing your ideas yourself and properly citing the sources where you got the idea from. So now you have a paper with an independant thesis, you're using material from a variety of sources rather than one, and you have citations. Almost impossible to get busted unless you're an idiot or lazy ... in which case you deserve ridicule.

What the hell kind of English class has you writing "cause and effect" papers? Do they have you doing derivatives in history class?

blaa I ended up writing it myself, someone in my class sent me a couple sites, the essays are terrible, I suffered this morning due to lack of sleep as usual, but better my own work I guess....

While I can't help you here is a tried and tested method I use that makes things easier

1) Get a few of the readings for the essay
2) As you read them have a pencil ready and draw brackets around importnat sentences
3) At the end of the reading write up your notes and make sure to take the page numbers down too for each bit of reference
4) Repeat for several other readings
5) Read through your readings with a copy of the essay title beside you numbering the more important points as you go along.
6) Get a blank piece of paper and have introduction at the top, conclusion at the bottom and themes you need to address in the middle.
7) Add numbers from step 5) to the piece of paper
8) Start writing effectively using the plan as the pieces of your jigsaw puzzle and write your own words in between
9) Make sure that during the writing stage that each time you cite a reference create a list at the bottom. This can save hours of problems at the end
10) HAVE FUN!

That seems like more work than writing it yourself, having to find and sort through all those essays, and rewriting them
I guess if its on some topic thats hard or confusing that method would work though
astroboy
Man do they always give you such easy, open-ended topics... "cause and effect" wtf?
How many words do they want? If it's under 3000, and does not require research or citations then you can polish it off in a day.

If you don't do it yourself you don't even deserve to go to college.

ditto! .. in fact, you don't even belong to the society of humanity or the working world, because in the working world, they eat you out alive, and you need to learn to do the work yourself, instead of leeching off of others' work ..

Unless you're doing science or engineering, the working world has almost nothing to do with college. If you're not intrinsically intelligent by the time you get to college, no amount of essays is going to prep you for your job outside of college. College is simply the most expensive resume padding you've ever invested in. I would fully advocate not wasting your time on the 80% of BS that is college if you can because it's simply wasted time and effort. Listen to Bob Dobbs ... don't be a pink! Embrace slack.
