Anthony Pappa @ Circus

Last night I became very upset. I went and saw Anthony Pappa at Cirucs and he was marvelous, beautiful set. But, they made a fricken fashion show during the middle of his set. These girls came on stage and some stupid designer was making dresses for them by cutting holes in cloth with his scissors, took complete attention away from the DJ. I would've been pissed if I was in his spot. Then to make matters worse, the cut his set short. He only went a couple minutes past 4 AM and the stupid sound guy came and started flashing his stupid flashlight at AP, to get his attention and he thought he could spin one more track, but they shut down the main speakers so that only his monitors were going. He had to stop the last track in the middle. I won't blame him if he never comes back to L.A. but if he does, the people at Circus do not deserve his presence. |

That's kinda screwed up. I was there for most of the night and really enjoyed it (I'm a closet Jeffrey Allen fan ;) ). Still, I generally like Circus now, at least the promoters running the music portion of it, and I don't see very many e-puddles on the sidelines like when Spundae/GK was there.

That is the one problem with Circus Right at 4 they shut the music off right away no matter what. And the staff member going up with the truntable cover is quite rude about it too. |

I had a great time last night, good music, lots of space to dance, great sound system. I agree that the fashion show was lame but it did not kill my night. Circus actually look like a nice club now, this is probably the first time I enjoy myself at the circus. |

I think the whole the fashion/music synergy thing comes across anything but. Every event that Ive attended combining the two always come across terribly.
I go out to experience the music first and foremost and the music usually takes a back seat when combined with the fashion/personality genre. To me that is wrong.
I would have been pissed too. |

Get over it. The fashion show is on the opposite side of the DJ booth and it's up to you and who ever else if they want to check it out. No one is being forced to turn their backs on the DJ.
I don't usually get bothered by stuff like fashion shows unless the music is stopped, then I start to hissssssss... But as long as the music is still playing and it's good, I sure ain't gonna let it take my attention away from the DJ. :p
Be glad DJs are allowed to spin til 4:00 or a few minutes after. Other places get the plug pulled 1/2 hr or earlier if the venue people or security guards have their panties in a bunch.
Pappa's set was not cut short. |

Kenosis!!! I spoke to you that night, you gave a promo to my friend Matt the guy with the glowsticks, he said he loved it. Sorry uplifting is not my cup of tea, but I trust Matt's judgement, it must be a pretty good mix. I'll pass it on to my promoter friend. |

The fashion show didn't bother me as much as me being worried Pappa wouldn't want to come back to L.A. cuz he might have thought it took away from his show.
As for the set being cut short, I am positive it WAS cut short because I was standing about 2 feet away from Pappa and I heard him tell the promoter that he thought he could spin one more song after he scratch ended the last track he played before it was even over! |

Nah, most peeps that were there for Pappa kept facing him and continued to dance. :gsmile: Most of the time, we don't even notice that fashion show. It's only noticable when the peeps aren't into the music and they shift towards the other side leaving the area around the DJ looking kinda bare.
I'm just glad they don't stop the music to announce the fashion show cuz then that would really suck. :whip:
Pappa has been to LA quite a few times, I doubt that he'd not want to come again.
BTW, his set at the MAYAN a few months ago, kicked ass!!!! :D |

Didn't know this, it was the first time I had seen Pappa in L.A. Thanks for the reassurance. :)
Actually I found out the Fasion show was planned because it was in the description of the night on Groove Tickets, I just didn't pay attention to that part I guess. Now I'm sure Pappa came in knowing that there would be a fashion show, I guess he didn't mind. |
