Excellent! We'll probably roll over there around midnight, so work it with the ladies and then bring them along. :D
And yes, I'll start putting some questions together over the next few days, so please feel free to contribute. I'm off to bed! |

| I can't wait for the Tiesto show. And then Edgar V at the Amp right after that. I think trance might be making a comeback to Tampa, hopefully. And I for one, absolutely without a doubt, hate hip hop. I play progressive house, progressive breaks, and trance at this club called the Chicaboom Room in Downtown Dunedin every other Friday night. And if I get one more friggan person come up to me and ask if I have any hip hop or rap, I'm gonna scream. Theres hundreds of other clubs in the area that play that garbage on Friday night, why do I have to play that crap too. I'm sorry but I don't "do it cuz everyone else does it". At least theres always a big turnout there, so I can expand the peoples minds whether they like it or not. Its been going strong for five months now. Sorry I just had to vent. |

If I go out to a local club on a Friday night it is usually to Stormans to go listen to Paul spin. One of these Fridays I might have to come check out the Chicaboom Room. The name alone intrigues me. :p

You know, I'm actually not sure which would be a better way to "introduce" Tiesto to Tampa. Sure, all of us TA's would LOVE to hear a "Magik" set, but I wonder if that's the best way to get people who aren't TA's into it. For example, a friend I'm bringing has never been to a trance set, but know's Tiesto from his remix of "Silence" and she's really curious to see him. Which would be a better Tiesto for her to be "introduced" to? The Tiesto that spun at Bayfront or at Space later that evening? :conf:
Just curious... |
you pose an interesting query... i guess if your trying to expand the scene, a bayfront type set would be best, because it would be all his own productions mostly(which isnt bad, but we TA's have heard these tracks countless times)..but for the tiesto and trance neophytes out there, a bayfront set would be more "beginner friendly", because anthems tend to attract a beginner crowd....im pretty sure that since tampa is a new market for him, the set is going to be mostly his popular tracks, im skeptical to say it will be a 'magik' set, as it seems these days, the magik sets are few and far between, because; 1)he tours around the sphere and plays exhaustivly year round now, 2) there seems to be certain clubs, like space and clubs in europe, were the magik sets take place at. 3) concurrently with all the touring, his set quality has in turn is less consistent than in years past. plus i hate to say he has developed a bit of an acute "oakie complex" with all of his recent successes and has gone to his head(which is inevitable), and not to mention his track selection and musical style has changed, furthur eroding that once celestial, patented magik sound...but he still has the 'magik' like i mentioned at certain clubs or gigs were he is feeling the vibe, it seems to come out of him with more of an experienced crowd..case in point, space in march, epic set, then in june a bunch of kids, the poor set, than at space in sept, a good crowd, a magik set, so there is a pattern here...again the crowd, the club, and the vibe, and damons ubiquitous whistle play an integral part in the performance of the dj....and the fact that he plays five nights in a row sometimes, you just cant expect him to perform at a high level(magik sets), mix perfectly, etc, EVERY NIGHT, hell even MJ had bad nights, they are afterall HUMAN...im getting off subject but this is just my two cents...neil... |

Here is the website address http://kellyschicaboom.com/ChicABoom/Home.htm
Yes, it is part of a very popular restaurant in Downtown Dunedin called Kelly's. But it is its own separate entity. There is a nice big covered outdoor patio, which is where I play. It is usually wall to wall out there. The people seem to like the music, except for the occasional ones requesting hip hop. But don't pay attention to the music schedule. They only put the bands that play live earlier in day on that schedule for some reason. I play from 11-2 every other Friday night, so the next night I play will be the 17th. |

I'm going to have to disagree with you dude. Tampa is the largest TV market in Florida, and the 13th largest metro in the country. Miami, New York, LA, and Chicago are in a class of their own. But outside of those four cities, we don't have it that bad here. I'll put our nightlife up against most cities. It might not be Miami and it might not be trance...but on any given night, I can find EDM at a vast array of nice locations.
Try living in places like Raleigh, Cleveland, Greensboro, or even New Orleans...where it can be a challenge even finding a DJ.
I think most are getting disillusioned with what is good nightlife. Ybor City, while is a bit young, is still one of the coolest, most urban, and largest nightlife districts in the southeast. You don't have to visit places like Full Moon Saloon, Skye, Empire or Hedo. Stick to Lotus, Amphitheater, Prana, Big City Tavern, Sakatini's, Czar, and Samari Blue.
And if we ever want to have a district similar to SoBe, we have to be willing to fight for the return of Ybor. SoHo is nice, but there just isn't the room for development or the urban vibe found down there. |

| Well ybor, channel side, highpark, is not bad at all, Im from Fort Lauderdale and the nite life over here doesnt really impress me that much with what I love about wpb-fort lauderdale-miami-south beach, the people, certain kind of vibe I get from there then from here, I know mattivi and rounder would agree with me, that nite life over here mostly is hip hop and rap, and the ghetto and college population doesnt really swing with me, but I think its good that we are getting trance over here, but it only takes a certain kind of group to know this music, everyone else thinks that we roll our asses off, while rap,we drink our 40's, smoke our chronic, and roll in our SUV's with 26" rims!!! |
