Vestax's new fused together mixer and turntables

Found this over at Skratchworx, looks like Vestax is at it again with there wacky ideas, but I applaud them for trying something new all the time.

From what I've gathered this morning, such a unit wouldn't be aimed at the scratch market - the choice of mixer dictates that really. But it could work for us with an 06 mixer instead of the VMC. I think the buttons and pitch sliders nearer the crossfader is a total winner, especially if an 06 was used. It seems more ergonomically logical to me to move all the controls nearer together to minimise movements. I think the QFO template would work better here - tonearm at the back with the pitch round the platter with centralised mixer controls.
But hey - this may never see the light of day, or at least not in all markets around the world. But it's worth showing and discussing. If you comment, please try and be constructive - don't just diss and flame.

..... Why? Where's the market for something like this? I hope to god that anyone who's about to drop $1500 on DJ gear has done enough research to realize that a contraption like this is pretty much useless to even the semi-serious DJ.

id agree, most of the time...
but if both of the decks included are good, the mixer is good, it seems to have 4 channels, for extra units, and they were seperate enough for you to be able to take em apart for fixing in case something gets messed... well, then it's a DJ pack that's not such a bad idea. again not SUCH a bad idea.
still, $1500? i think thats enough to buy it seperately almost. $800 on a pair of techs, and i have $500 left for a mixer? not worth it. |

| The left deck on it just bothers me. Instead of the tonearm being pulled its pushed, and that will probably kill the stylus much faster and sound like e. All in the name of damn symmetry. :rolleyes: |

This is true and what I really don't like about it, but someone on Skratchworx said about making it modular, so you can choose the mixer you want and bolt it up.
Also like Chex said, the way the left deck will read the record is just not a good idea in my opinion. |

I think it could be a cool idea...
I mean, you have a sweet mixer, and two of the best turntables in the market all in one peice, stuck in a nice strong box.
It wouldnt be good for mobile (or wait would it...just shove the whole beast in a coffin) but i think it would look damn sexy as your home setup.
First of all the price would have to be considerably cheaper than buying two pdx, and a vmc004.
Second, it would still have to have line ins for cd, and send receives for effects (if im not mistaken the normal vmc004 does not have send/recieve)
EDIT: oh god! i just noticed that on the top side of each turntable, theres this little metal dome shaped thing, with metal bars protruding from it. This looks like theres built in lamps on each side...yes i think this would be a great home setup.
EDIT AGAIN: One thing. The VMC mixer line are cheaper than the pcv line (you can get a 4 channel vmc for much less than you could get a 3 channel pcv) BUT! the vmc line doesnt have pcv faders as standard...so if one of your faders starts to screw up (which is more likely not being pcv) I imagine you might be looking at a large fee for replacing it, as it does not look like they are user replaceable. |

true, but you could always mount the cart backwards. whether that would work or not, i don't know but i dont see any reason why not :p
looks like the design boys at vestax are doing what they are paid for, and on the surface it looks very very nice. pity they didnt use the mk2 pro tonearm system. there is no doubt of the quality of the hardware (if you have seen specs for the separate versions you will know why i say that) but i agree, there isn't much of a market for it unless its a mobile dj thing, or if a dj is very picky about the kit they use it would be very easy to bring that thing along instead of having to shell out extra on a flight case. plus it saves on A LOAD OF WIRES!!

That backwards cart could work, it would be very very weird, but you never know, somebody on Skratchworx said it looks like the PDX-01, an experimental deck Vestax made.
