I have a pair of M-Audio's BX8 Studio Monitors.
Sound quality and frequency are comparable to Mackie HR824...but at around £300 a shot they are the best you can buy at that price!
And yes they have an integrated amp. |

I was mostly refering to the first part of your statement regarding "sound quality." Don't get me wrong, I am sure the BX8s are great in their price range. Home Recording Magazine says they are the best 8" moniters for under a grand. However the Mackies are well over a grand and are simply stunning.
If you are going to go just by specs there is an extremely important figure for the BX8s I could not find and that is the "margin of error" in range of the Frequency Response. The HR824s have an incredible ±1.5dB throughout the entire frequency response you listed above. The BX8s do not list this figure as for as I can tell. Below is the godly frequency response chart for the Mackies

Of course my opinion does not count for as I have only heard the HR824s in real life and not the BX8s. I think at this level it is really more important to compare the sound of the speakers and not just the specs. That said, I am sure the BX8s sound better than my current set up. |

Hi auujay
What you state above is entirely correct. I'm not disputing the HR824 sonic capabilities. To be honest there isn't a better studio monitor out there. The ±1.5dB error margin of the HR824 is an amazing technological accomplishment, which is what professionals seek.
I have searched through my manuals and I can't seen to find a value for the BX8's.
The BX8 are amazing on what they offer for the price. For anyone out there wanting some extremly well built monitors but where price is a major factor you cannot go wrong than with a pair of BX8's. Even the BBC has realised their potential and installed them in their studio's!
But given the chance and a larger budget I'd love to own a pair of HR824's :) |

| I would actually recommend the BX8's as a quality product. Give them a try. I gaurantee you will be impressed. |
