compression - making beats "tighter"

| hi folks. i have a question for you trance-producers out there. Do you compress your drumtracks/beats? If so, how much and what kind of compressor do you use? I know compression on sample-made drums aren't usually necessary, but sometimes it can make the whole thing sound "tighter"... whats your opinion on this? |

I know compression is used a lot to reduce the differences between volume levels in different parts of the song.
I have tried compression myself on drums, but i can't seem to find the right settings....setting tips anyone? (treshold etc) |

I use compressors to master my recordings. I usually just use them as limiters, so that the overal volume of the track gets louder. Use a relativly high threshold setting for limiting.
