hello all...

i need some recommendations. i'm dj'ing at a party on the 17th, the partygoers will be people that are more into the hiphop/rap scene, however i want to work some edm into my set. i decided on ferry corsten - rock your body rock because it's a fun tune to dance to regardless of your normal musical tastes. could you please recommend other songs like it that you believe would be fun to dance but that wouldn't drive non-EDM people away?

thanks much.

techno, house progressive

if your going to go trance.. try to start off with some tracks people know.. like sandstorm or ressurection.. than lead your way in.. see how the crowd reacts

play some cheesy commercial vocal house or something...especially if you're doing this in NY...maybe stuff by Ralphi Rosario, Peter Rauhofer, Junior Vasquez...should probly get their attention

lots of people in NY who don't know much about edm like to chill/dance to tribal too i've noticed. perhaps stuff by Victor Calderone, Peter Bailey...should work to your advantage ;)

French house is the ultimate party music. It works regardless of the audience's musical taste! Here's a list of artists to start with:

Daft Punk/Thomas Bangalter
Dave Armstrong
Eric Prydz
C-Mos

Good luck!

Umm...

Hydroponix - Don't Stop, Go (Mirabeau Main Mix)
P. Diddy ft. Kelis - Let's Get Ill (Deep Dish Vocal Remix)
Tony Faline - Do What I Do (Icey Mix)

...all have "rap" elements. They're just short vocal samples though.

you have to face the fact that most people simply wont like it. it's a pipe dream of many EDM addicts that they will one day play at a house party where everyone is into rock/hip hop/rnb/cheese and they play an amazing set which instantly converts everyone

unfortunately it's a pipe dream because it wont happen. if you really do want to work in some EDM, there is only one recommendation i can make:

dj uber, jacques & fosch - don't make me take it there

also known as timbaland - dont make me take it there (dj uber, jacques & fosch remix)

i'm not sure if you'll be able to find it, its quite an obscure track that surfaced in the UK this summer. it has a good driving house beat with typical MC-style vocals from timbaland on top, and its very, very good

i'm sure there are some cross-over tracks between EDM-urban music but if suggest that whatever you do, DONT play dreamland. just stick to playing what the crowd likes if you want to be on the safe side; if you're brave and you still want to experiment, you might want to play some piano-led house - some of it is bland enough not to offend anyone
