| I was aware that EYC has become a ty school, but i didnt know it was to this extent. I've come across some of the poeple who go there, and those who like to start for no reason, and attack in swarms. These are gangs, making them wear uniforms wont make a difference, the police should crack down on this gang activity...theres no reason why this had to happen, all of these ******s should be held accountable, make an example of them |

Police too late to save stabbed boy
3 teens charged in 2003 slaying
Boy, 12, killed; stepfather beaten
DALE ANNE FREED
STAFF REPORTER
Police responding to a tip that three teens planned to kill a 12-year-old boy and his parents knew they were too late when they were told en route that "a male on the sidewalk had been stabbed by his stepson," a youth justice court was told yesterday.
The 12 year old can only be identified as Johnathan.
Johnathan's older brother and two other teens are charged with first-degree murder in Johnathan's stabbing death Nov. 25, 2003. The older brother and one of the teens are also charged with attempted murder of the brothers' stepfather.
Johnathan was stabbed at least 71 times, court heard; his stepfather was beaten on the head with a baseball bat and nearly stabbed before he could make his way to the sidewalk.
The alleged assailants have pleaded not guilty at their youth justice court trial before Mr. Justice David Watt at the University Ave. courthouse.
Constable Paul Wildeboer testified yesterday that he got a radio call at 4:34 p.m. about "a threatening death" call and interviewed a 14-year-old girl and her four friends. One of them, a 16-year-old girl, testified yesterday that the girls believed they needed to make the tape at her house "to get some sort of evidence because ... police don't take teenagers seriously."
The girl's mother testified yesterday that, upset by a voice on the tape promising "there's going to be blood on tap," she immediately phoned 911,
When Wildeboer and his partner arrived at the girl's house at 4:42 p.m. they found a "very upset" young teen and her four girlfriends who said they had taped the teenage boys planning the kill. The girls gave officers a statement and the tape they'd made, along with a phone number, but no address.
The young teen told the officers she decided to make the tape after receiving a disturbing call from her boyfriend after 1 p.m. saying that he and his friends were lying in wait to kill the boy's family. She told officers she didn't know where the boys called from.
The officer said the girl's male friend told her that Johnathan's older brother "hated his stepfather and would be free if (the stepfather) were dead," court was told.
A voice, identified as that of Johnathan's older brother, tells her they planned to use "fists and knives" to do the killing because guns would be "too loud, too easy."
At 5:05 p.m. the officers returned to the station, about two minutes away, to connect the phone number the girl had given them to the address via computer.
Then they handed over the tape to Detective Glenn Gray in the criminal investigation bureau at 55 Division.
At 5:32 p.m. Gray phoned the number officers gave him, posing as a telemarketer asking to speak to the adults at the house. He was told by a young male they weren't home and he didn't know when they'd be home.
Gray told Wildeboer and his partner to go to the address and arrest the boys for threatening death. "I thought I was dealing with a threatening (death)," Gray said.
At 5:40 p.m., the stabbing report came across the radio.
Five minutes later, as police converged on the address, Wildeboer was standing outside the slain boy's home with an emergency task force officer when he heard "they located a 12-year-old boy" in the house, he said.
That testimony sent Johnathan's mother fleeing from the courtroom.
Court also was told that at 5:50 p.m. a concerned Gray phoned the 14-year-old girl at her home and got a description of the suspects. He told her to call him if she heard from the boys again.
Gray was sending a surveillance team to her home in case the boys arrived when the girl phoned at 6:17 p.m. to say her friend had "just phoned," but her father took the call and wouldn't let her talk to him.
When asked Wednesday the reason for planning the killings, one teen said, "we're not doing this for no reason ... what are your reasons? To solve (the older brother's) problems and make profits."
Court was also told that while waiting for the family to return, the teens "smashed and trashed" much of the house.
The trial continues Monday.

Yesterday's fatal stabbing is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have overtaken the city in the past week.
Police charged a Toronto man with assault after a dump-truck operator was beaten to death outside a biker-gang clubhouse in Scarborough on Thursday.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, Brian Langer, 47, and his 3-year-old daughter Zoë were fatally stabbed at their west-end home. Police have concluded that Langer's wife and the child's mother, Andreá Labbe, 26, killed the victims and took her own life.
Police are also investigating the shooting of an 11-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man on a TTC bus last Sunday. Tamara Carter is recovering after she was struck in the head by a stray bullet when a gunman opened fire on a bus on Jane St. near Wilson Ave.
And last Saturday, a 17-year-old was stabbed near the Fairmont Park Community Centre, near Gerrard St. E. and Coxwell Ave. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
