I have to agree. It's evident that he has talent, given the quality of pre-mid-2002 releases and sets. The popularity he has received courtesy the DJMag poll has just gone to his head.

I'm willing to bet that if you give him two or three years without being number one, he'd improve.

Personally i think that 2002 was his best year. I loved his sets, and his productions. I loved "in my memeory" and in search of sunrise 3.

You have to remember that he is after all a dj, and therefore his sound is dictated by what he plays(produced by others). So, in my opinion, the quality of music hasnt been the same for any producer really since 2002. I just found that 2002 had a more emotional side(sometimes dark).

Thats just me though. some people love his stuff now(obviously considering he is #1 again)

I wont say he is garbage, but just that he went in a different direction, than he was going before. To me his sound got harder, and less trancy, and i did not like "Just be" or nanya. Nanya was a poor effort in my opinion, great tracks, but poor mixing and programming.

The last time i saw tiesto(june 2003) he was unbelievable. Tiesto at the Docks in Toronto, amazing set!

He is not garbage, he just went another way, which somepeople didnt like. just like oakenfold went another way, and people didnt like it.

I think you're the n00b here, his question is valid, if you can't answer it, don't reply.

I basically agree with what Halcyon+On+On posted - once someone is at the top of the 'rankings' they become a target for every kind of criticism..

Many electronica enthusiasts are hyprocrites in that they expect others to be open-minded to their musical tastes yet they can't even respect other DJs (and their fans) within the same genre.

He was voted #1 (with many non trance addict fans consequently, oh noes we can't have that can we), so automatically a lot of trance fans are going to say he's worse, as they are wont to do. Also because he started to play less Epic/Anthem Trance and more Techno/Tech-Trance.

its not about talent, its about popularity. he has skill, but thats when he tries. unfortunately it seems he doesnt try nearly as often as he used to. he gets his money so he can just go about spinny sloppy sets to please a crowd consisting of mostly naive people. his production skills are OK but they're very OK at that. he's had some good ones, but in general they're lacking in comparison to the other top rated producers in the genre like ferry, pvd or armin. i guess back when more people really respected his skills, he was about the music, but as with most musicians turned famous, its now more about the money, as sad as it seems...

nothing happened. its just that now everyone graduated from middle school and they are now in high school, so now its cool to hate on everyone including tiesto, spiky hair and this word "commercialism", which is only used by people who claim to "own" electronic dance music. tiesto still rocks.

hint; if your most popular in the world for 3 years in a row, its time to be doing the dictacting. (and not be playing such commercial crap.)

The Nyana CD was the last Tiesto thing i enjoyed.
ahh well good luck to him. He can do what he wants to do, be who he wants to be blah blah blah :p

I'm not fully aware of what tiesto has done wrong. I've been hearing many things saying that tiesto "had failed" after 2002, he isn't the same person after 2002? What happened to him in 2002?

Thanks

If you don't think he has done anything wrong, then he probably didn't do anything wrong. Don't let others dictate what you think.

I think Tiesto just merely changed his style... as is apparent from Just Be and his livesets. I still like him, but he is not one of my favorite DJs anymore.

He always has been and always will be the best DJ ever, I think most people on here knocking him either A: used to be fans and dont like his new material or B: Like to be trendy and pretend they never liked him. If you like trance, he's done something that youll think is awesome. Personally Im still his #1 fan, I could go for some older style mixes and such but hes so big now that I dont think he can really pick where he plays and what he plays. People criticize him for a great many things, but theyre all he said she said bull. For example, people say he trainwrecks all the time. WHen? Ive heard over 100 livesets from him, and didnt hear him do that except for a couple mixes. Ive seen him live 7 times and he never ed up that I could hear. He sold out. How? He spins 4 days a week around the world, did he line up all his own gigs? No. Management did. Does he spin too much? Too large of venues? Someone please tell me whats going on cuz i dont get it. I think tiesto, I think of a man who, along with PVD, basically made trance what it is today. Im a huge fan, and always will be, and will always see him spin if I can.
