hey ... currently, i have two hard drives, a cd-writer, and a dvd-rom hooked up to my computer .. currently, i have my two hard drives running on the primary, and the cd-rw and dvd running on secondary ..

now here's my question .. what will happen if i run one hard drive and cd-rw on the primary, and the other hard drive and dvd on the secondary .. what will the motherboard detect?? i have a full loaded OS on each hard drive's main partition (C:\) ..

have you guys done this before?? will windows automatically detect the two OS's, and then pop up the operating system selection screen ?? thanks a bunch..

you should not be running the setup that you have. You should have the primary HD and DVD on one, and the secondary HD and cdr-w on the other. It's faster for information to pass when they are different cables. Everything will be autodetected so you have no worries there. The worst thing that will happen is the your secondary drive will change it's drive letter. You can go and manually change the drive letter back to the way it was.

also remem that if you were going to copy a cd to cdr, the data is flowing through one cable only, and you could risk the chance of the cdrw underunning.

Prolly not.

It will just boot the OS on the primary HD.

Try installing a boot manager...

thanks for the advice guys, but i changed my mind and went back with my original settings .. hard drives on primary, cd/dvd drives on secondary .. my ide cable could not reach the board at the moment (maybe i'll buy a longer cable in the future or something ..) ..

i rarely ever make cd->cdr copies anyways .. most of the cds i have i already have a backup copy on my hard drive..

i don't know if you guys do it, but i have an os on each hard drive, in case if one hard drive goes bad, then i can jump to my other hard drive as the main os, and backup everything on the bad hard drive, before seeing what's wrong with the hard drive.

the reason why i was thinking of seperating my drives, because i currently have my page file on the opposite hard drive of the current hard drive that is running the operating system. i know that if i seperate the hard drives, my performance will be a lot better than currently, especially since i run big progs that will max out my board memory (i have 256 mb ram .. :whip: :whip: .. i'm surviving .. hahaha)
