Alright, so as some of you know, we are already running a classic/progressive house night on Wednesdays at Fez Batik, and we were looking for a way to give back to the DJ community. So I pulled together a bunch of shops, and we managed to setup the following DJ Contest. Here is how it will work:
Every week a new DJ will be selected (based on their submitted demo) to play from 9PM until 10PM every Wednesday. Each will be ranked by a panel of qualified judges. Every four weeks we will select a winner that will be awarded over $500 in gift certificates to various record stores and DJ equipment shops. We have confirmed at least 3 sponsors that will be donating a total of no-less than $500 worth of gift certificates, but it is more than likely going to be closer to $800-$900 work of prizes. I will keep you posted on the exact amounts, and what stores we will be working with.
The best part of the contest is that it is 100% FREE. There is no entry charge, and absolutely no cover charge for anyone attending the show (even if you show up after the DJ contest). In fact, we will be paying the DJ¡¦s for every single person that shows up on their guest list as well to make it worth their while for coming out. In order to qualify for the prizes, you must have at least 20 people show up of your guest list (but hey, if you get 18 or 19, we¡¦ll let it slide ;) ).
After the next 3 DJ¡¦s compete, the winner from the previous 4 weeks will compete again against the new 3 DJ¡¦s for a chance to win again. Each DJ can win a maximum of 3 times. During the middle of the summer, the 4 top rank DJ¡¦s from the entire year will compete back-to-back from 6pm until 10pm (one hour each) for a chance to win a much large prize (To-be-announced soon!).
After the contest is complete, Jason Myles Moore comes on from 10-11:30 and then DJ¡¦s Manzone and Strong will go on for the remainder of the night. As mentioned before, there is absolutely no cover for this event!
DJ¡¦s will be ranked based on the following:
- Mixing ability
- Ability to Interact with the crowd
- Ability to stick to the desired genre of the night (We will looking for a funky, classic progressive sorta feel. Nothing to hard)
- Uniqueness of set
- And other typical factors.
A DJ has already been selected for this Wednesday (the 8th) but the slot of next week is still open. In order to be eligible to compete, please feel free to come by on the 8th and drop off your mix CD. We will be also setting up a variety of drop locations at various sponsor¡¦s shops as well. I¡¦ll post here as soon as all are confirmed.
Lastly, the entire event from 9PM until 3AM will be streamed live on SJIRadio.com as always, in full CD quality sound. If we can get enough light in the DJ booth, we will also stream video ļ Here is the link for the audio for future reference: mms://server4.sjiradio.com/Channel1
