Well- the weekend had ended and I am a happy camper indeed.
I can't say that my achey muscles necessarily agree with this statement but I am strong and healthy like bull so I am sure the muscles will recover.
Friday night found me at Roxy Blu... you see I met Matt Gracie ( a local DJ ) about 3 months ago and this guy has called me literally everytime he's played but for one reason or another I've been unable to attend.
Finally - I just couldn't put it off ( I mean, the guy's been persistent with the calling, how could I resist) its time I gave Matt the attention he deserved. My priorities when partying- DANCING + MUSIC, socializing, all else. So here I was, ready to sacrifice the dancing to put socializing on top of the list, if for a night. We arrived at Roxy at about 11.30pm and the door staff couldn't find our name on the guest list but they let us in after we told them we were Matt's guests :gsmile: It was weird going in and not knowing anyone there... ( System Soundbar being my home away from home ;) I always find my beloved TAs there )To my dismay, I find Matt had finished playing :( and now I'm stuck with other locals.... I almost left (yes! yes! yes! you say how snobbish!!!) Then.... the fimiliar face of Colin Chu and Dave Saddler is before me and I remember that I had earlier gotten Big League Chu's newsletter telling me he was spinning there. I sit tight and before I know it the boyz are at their best- spinning like crazeee and instantly I am back at the breakz room at System ( when it existed ) but this was even better-they were differen and it was more fun than many a nights at System) The crowd incidentally was all about quality vs quantity. I saw some in guyz dancing on their heads- I was in my glory. Then I saw Miss Mitchie ( I remembered her from when she spun at a Cherry Beach party I'd helped organize ) She was showing me some breakz moves and I was eating this up. We had fun....then the news came-
My friend comes running into the lounge from the main room and reports that Matt G is playing at 2.30am and that Matt seemed sooooooo excited, he couldn't wipe the grin from his face. SO off we go to check Matt out and we were rewarded with some dark, hard, house. I boogied my ass off to all these guys and then at the end of the night I found myself in the main room .... uh- trying to drag my friend out not knowing that the mofo had made a bet to dance as long as Vince Von continued to play there. - there must've been like three or four of them left in that room and Vince just smiled and kept playing. Finally- we left but not before being bombarded with free passes galore to all sorts of events. Satuday night found me at System Soundbar ( I had to go! it was DJ Dan!) The I bump into faces that seemed fimiliar- and lo and behold Vince von - all over again! I love the kind of house this guy spins! its sooooo smooth!! Instantly he recognizes us crazee freaks. I must add that my silly friend did not rememer Vince and it was I who made sure they met again ;))Immediately big smiles from Vince AND a CD as well. By now, I am already feeling super cos I luv getting CDs more so than downloading stuff from DJ's sites. (I'm adding them to my music collection for whe I leave the country next July)
Yeah i was there for Dj Dan, I did come out to check Vince VOn at about 1.30am and another local named DJ Laki ( super friendly kewl guy ) who was intro'd to me at some point during the night. It was a pleasure to check him out bec. I am realizing more and more that I prefer smaller venues and local DJs rather than the international types. ( altho see if you can hold me still when Steve lawler returns )
I mean, the hospitality these people showed us- they are humble indeed. not to mention the vibes they create, ahhhh it was a good weekend indeed. and suddenly I am reminded of how much I have ignored our local TA djs like Mike Schryer and Matt Vagrant and Richard Raiban and DJ Eso and oh! it even get more micro than that- I know there are many, many TAs who spin and I for one am resolved to pay more attention to these people rather than pay big $$$$$ to see big name Djs. ( ok well- maybe for Scumfrog, I'll make an exception)
I don't want to go on and on but clearly, this has been a truly enjoyable weekend.
G'night.
