hey guys. i've been doing some reading and what i came up with was SysEx and CC messages. i tried the sysex but it doesn't seem to be what i'm looking for. i'm looking for a way to automate all the parameters on my jp through tracks similar to the volume, pan, etc. does every parameter have a CC# ? and if so, how can control them in cubase?

thanks in advance

the CC perimiters are the same on all hardware synths.. but to get them on a jp, press Shift - 4 until you get to Tx/Rx Setting - Select Knob..

then you just turn the knob/slider you want to know the MIDI CC and it will display it on the screen.

most CC's are pre-assigned, look in your manual to see if your synth already comes w/ pre-assigned CC's... meaning:

CC #1 - pan
CC #2 - attack

etc. then in cubase the automation is simple.

sysex can be a nightmare

For the parameters which have control numbers assigned (again, lots should be in the manual), you can put them in a blank track and either set the value in a blank bar at the beginning, or draw them in like you would volume etc- once you have assigned the relevant cc number to them.
You can do exactly the same with any parameter which doesnt have a cc number assigned and draw it in- but you need to assign one (using NRPNs).For this you need to use a combination of control changes and NRPNs/RPNs in the list edit
Not a chance im posting a tutorial on here- far too in depth and time consuming .
If you set the JP to transmit ccs and cubase to receive/record them (and sysex) you can record any movements of front panel controls into a seperate new track.

Here you will encounter things calls MSB and LSBs... all the data will be in the manual- but it wont tell you how to use them.

Record on a midi track - move the knob you want automated on your synth.

You should now have that data recorded. If you open it up with the usual midi editor at first there will be nothing. Change the bottom bit from showing velocity to showing brightness. There you can draw the curves as you wish. Also you can open the data up with the 'List Editor'.

I was sorta wondering about how I can make a perfectly sine wave in the automation tracks. Whenever I use the sine wave control to make one, they never look perfect; why is that?
