Just got this in my email box today (flyer/press release from Liquid):
I have reformatted it for more emphasis on what caught my eye:
| quote: | Liquified , Avaland and Giant presents the west coast launch of Fundacion, Sasha's first US residency since the unexpected closure of NYC nightclub Twilo over six years ago ended his lengendary monthly with John Digweed. Following October's sold out sneak preview event, this official opening party marks the first of a monthly series exclusive to Los Angeles and NYC.
Not just a return to the residency format, Fundacion also is the platform Sasha has chosen to debut his newest performance medium - a prototype wave file controller he created to maximize interaction with the breakthrough software program, Ableton Live. Foregoing both the vinyl and CD format, this cutting edge technology allows for sound manipulation that combines the aesthetics of the dj set with the spontaneity and freedom of the live performance.
Representing the future of DJ culture, Fundacion will be a
pivotal point in the future evolution of dance music worldwide. Fundacion is proudly presented by Liquified, Avalon Hollywood, and Giant, in partnership with The Collective Agency. Formerly known as Balance Promote Group, TCA is best known as the agency responsible for bringing the originators of the progressive sound to North America and consistently pinpointing and exposing the future legends of the genre. |
Should be interesting...
I have to add, "Fundacion" is such a tacky name!!!
What if the controller was just a really big glorified mouse wheel? LOL :stongue: :stongue: |

One could argue that a turntable is just a really big glorified (motorized) mouse wheel, turned on its side... :stongue: :stongue: |

heh for those of you who are thinking about BUYING it...
sasha employs 3 people full time to go around ringing record labels + producers to get a hold of the individual parts of a track he wants to play / remix live / whatever and when they can't get them, they pull apart the track themselves and load the pieces onto his laptop
while its a nice idea - its not viable for anyone whos not sasha. |

That sounds like a great device, but yea, not viable for anyone esle, there was a device like this made by some collage or univercity students a year ago that you used this projected screen with these round circles on to move sounds around each other and closer to other things to make effects and bring in sounds, it was an amazing device, I'd kill to have one. |

| gabriel and dresden have been doing what sasha is doing with ableton live for awhile now. Live is a great sequencer that you can use to play loops live as well as full length tracks all sync in real time. You must set things called warp markers to let live know what to track to. i.e., bass hit... Sasha is just using a midi controller to control the functions in live via that. Using a midi controller and a audio card such as the firewire 410 would make a totally custom mixer. The mixer functions are all built into live, crossfade, 4 eq or 3eq setup. The Eq can also has freq control...how much bass to take out on the low end. It has some nice effects built in plus you can always add new effects. All this can be controlled through the controller. It is just like having a mixer but using the midi controller for a control surface and the computer as the virtual mixer. You could get a big midi controller and instantly have eq's, cue, effects, on every channel separate from each other. It is the future of dj'ing. Gabriel and Dresden know this, and now Sasha...Any questions, shoot me an email. I hope this made sense |
