Rumsfeld had a "town hall" with the soldiers & one guy complained that their humvees we're not protected enough & that the they went to scrap yards (Iraqi ones) to get metal,etc...Rumsfeld replied:

"As you know, you go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time."

:conf: What kind of bull is that:conf:

I agree, that is bull. Rumsfeld should have used his magic wand to put a few extra layers of armor on those humvees before he sent them out. Talk about oversight!

Rumsfeld does have a magik wand.. hes defense secretary of the most powerful nation in the world. His magik wand is his authority. The same one that sent the military to that country in the first place.

problem is the u.s. miscalculated when it came to how long the war was going to take and how much resistance they would come across...they never produced enough properly protected vehicles and now soldiers are paying for that miscalculation with their lives...

as we speak they are building more properly armoured vehicles to send over to iraq however they may not be ready until well into the new year.....in the mean time the troops have to continue on their missions in humvees and jeeps that are no where near army specs when it comes to protection and safety...

From 60 Minutes Report...

There have also been problems with maintenance and replacement parts for critical equipment like Abrams tanks, Bradley personnel carriers and Black Hawk helicopters.

And it isn't the only equipment problem facing soldiers in Iraq.

Oregon guardsman Sean Davis told us that his unit was short ammunition and night vision goggles, and lacked radios to communicate with each other.

He says guardsman were using walkie-talkies that they or their families purchased from a sporting goods or similar store. "And anybody can pick up those signals, you know," he says. "And we don't have the radios that we need."

Gen. Byrne says stories about families in Oregon having to go out and buy for their sons and daughters radio equipment, body armor, GPS gear, computers and night vision goggles because they weren't being issued are true.

He said some Guard units are also using Vietnam era M-16 assault rifles, which he calls adequate for state duty but not acceptable for duty in Iraq. There is also a bullet shortage for training, he says.

Yea....those Humvees should be superduper coated so that they're mega-inpenitrable in case, you know, bullets actually come at them...

Seems to me that its more proof that the U.S. was totally unprepared to "free" Iraq...First they went in not enough manpower to secure the country & stop the looting that occured when they got there....oh wait... they did guard the Ministry of Oil HQ during the looting.

And now they are illequiped...what next?

Anyway thanks for stating the obvious Donald...Jon Stewart of the Daily Show will have a field day with this quote:tongue2

You'd think they learned their lesson after Vietnam. Guess not... LOL!!
