The NEC is almost the same price and I've heard much better things about it in general.

yeh it does prefer +R better, but it doesnt like cheap media which is ok for me. i wouldnt want cheap media anyways cuz itll degrade much faster than a good quality disc, like maxell or even ridata/ritek

I bought a Lie-On 8x which believe it or not has actually worked beautifully for me. I normally stay the hell away from that brand, but after my friend bought one and burned over 100 DVDs without a hitch (almost got cut off from his ISP too :stongue: ), I was sold on it.

This is the problem....there are so many to choose from nowadays and if u look at the reviews...Every single one of em is performing really well....The only bad reports that i have seen are due to the low quality media that was used during testing....I have heard good things about LiteOn as well and its cheap....

$100 for this unit! Wow.

How would one think it would work with an external housing and USB2 / Firewire?
