Hey guys... been djing for nearly a year now, am getting quite okz... got beat matching down, now just trying to understand mixing in key etc, and experiencing new mixing methods... eg paul van dyks quick mixing style.... armin van buurens more drawn out mixing style...
Im about to start playing at some gigs now, and was wondering if theres anyhting u guys can do just to add sumfing to a set... give the crowd somehting different....
Im going to b playing in a rave room to mostly younger ppl who r more into hardcore n DnB... so ive organised a bit more of a banging set... but r there any tricks u do just to get crowd going etc
Chances r ill prolly just use 2 TT n a mixer, maybe ight have an effects unit... any help be great, thnaks guys |

| Work the crowd, get into your music. You're a performer, an entertainer. Dance around, pump your fist, etc. If you've ever seen Donald Glaude in person, you know what I'm talking about. |

Yup, just throw all your energy in to your set. Play with the EQ's, make quick cuts, and most of all: entertain the crowd.
Just have a good time, and good luck with your gigs! |

| Heres what i do sometimes, and I do some pretty unique stuff. Just pick two records that go good together, and play those two forever, switching back and forth...and then you'll just get these crazy ideas, and sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. When it comes to spinning records, i find that the best way to learn is to do it, and listen...all these tutorials, and stuff usually just doesn't cut it. |

Agree on the showmanship thing. So many DJ's keep their heads down and are so absorbed in the actual physical act of DJ'ing, and forget that they're there to entertain the crowd. Now you've nailed the technical side of things, concentrate how you present yourself as a musical performer: dance, work the crowd, make eye contact, smile and generally have a great time. Shouldn't be difficult: you're out there in front of 100's/1000's of people and you're playing your favourite music! ;)
Good luck! :D |

7:30-8:30!?!??!?!:conf:
Talk about a warm up timeslot!
I'm over 18, and I don't like heaven anyway, went to Agnelli & Nelson this week and it reminded me of all the reasons I hate that place (crowds a bunch of tossers, its changed over the last year from the druggies to the poser crowd. i can handle druggies, just not the posers) |
