Ok i think most of us agree that Al Jaazera is biased..but if they suddenly went away like vamoosh disappear..americans would love that ..ok its only theorethical..but do you honestly think that the americans would stop there propaganda machine inc fox the answer is no..so in my ophinion the origional question is futile

Yeah but my problem is that by it being biased it incites terrorism. Genralistic america bashing in europe is just ignorant, genralistic america bashing in the middle east is dangerous.

You could say fox and co. incite american action I supose but frankly I think it's the other way round in that case. That is fox reacts to rather than incites war.

Also I think the degree to which aljazeera is biased is greater.

But I'd say that media bias anywhere is a very bad thing as it s up our opinions on basicly everything. Ok I've focused on algazeera because they have so much infulence in the middle east. But its something that need to be watched. Like auujay I try to get it from both sides. But what about the people in the middle east who don't or can't? It could, probebly has, cost lives.

Maybe, but seeing as how that has been the prevailing opinion of the US (and the USSR when it was around) for some 40 years I don't see how Aljezeera is really doing anything dangerous. They are just playing to their public. Like Fox News and like CNN... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'll agree with that. But the problem I have is that they are distorting, via false(ok skewed) reporting, the east against the west. Which can only lead to more problems between us. In France for example it's ok to America bash because it's unlikely someone there is going to try blowing people up (even with the high muslim population). But that isn't true in the middle east.

Um, maybe, but its more realistic to spin it the other way around. When an American news media source broadcasts a story worldwide (aka CNN), its picked up by the Islamic world as well. And when CNN/Fox/Western Media blatantly tells the American point of view only again (which it does), it pisses people off in the Middle East about as much as Al Jazeera pisses you off.

Western media is told very much from a white Judeo-Christian perspective, leaving the Middle East very much out of the loop. Al-Jazeera is told from an Arab Islamic perspective... they're both only telling their sides of the story and no one else's. When was the last time you saw FoxNews run a story sympathetic to an Iraqi who didn't want the United States there?

Its a vicious cycle, and just because you think Al Jazeera is guilty doesn't mean the rest of the world thinks we're a-ok.

Supose it's different for me because I don't see fox much. Or even CNN lately (not at home no sat). Mostly it's the BBC I watch, but it does have a world service to though. I do rember watching fox and thinking it was even more dumbed down than newsround (uk folk you'll know what I mean).

I suppose anything is possible. But its hard to say whether Aljezeera is really having a larger impact. Obviously as a news source it makes a difference, but its not the only news source in the region. And somehow I doubt its really making people hate the US any more or less. BUT admittedly I am speculating, as are you.

hehehe yup we are :haha:

but anyway what actually happend was I saw the story (on the bbc site) and wanted to test how fair they were just out of intrest, they failed badly. And that is basicly what pissed me off. Because I wanted to see a reasoned responce which would mean I could use them for reliable information. (I'd read stuff there before and sometimes it was interesting tho slightly biased but tolerably so) But they totally twisted the story to .

That is surprising, at least we got the BBC to provide us with relatively unbias news because in the US its turning to . The media is getting worse everyday with the bull patriotism and fear of being labeled a liberal.

My thoughts exactly.

When did liberal become a bad word?

Dervish
(just looked at my post from before I ment I was testing aljazeera, incase of any confustion...dunno if there was)

Anyway, yeah exactly I don't see how being libral (respecting human rights and so on) could be a bad thing.

Maybe the american media in some quarters(fox) is doing a good job of twisting the stories it's self. I rember my exgirlfriend saying that in the US because each state is so big it's hard to get much national nevermind international news on TV. Which I thought was weird, but maybe a product of being so big.

One thing about the BBC though, to stay relevant and keep getting viewers and so keep getting the licence fee (the goverment could stop it if it was no longer being watched), the BBC still has to get the stories everyday. Normally it goes down the root of the other side and uses its past as being imparcial to it's advantage. (i.e. some terroists have allowed filming in israel and so on)

There was only once I whiffed an air of imparicality when an embedded reporter was with US marines he went a bit native with them I felt. But maybe it's understandable when these guys are directly guarding you.
