Fantastic
the quality on mp3 isn’t better then vinyl, no clue how you guessed at that one... mp3's like everyone else just stated are COMPRESSED, and the correct spelling of dnt (wtf) is DON'T.
I'm still trying to figure out when this thread is going to be delete.
Like i said before i used to be a vinyl junkie i spent loads of money on vinyls but with mp3s being shifted around the net i thought wots the point. I have great respect for the time the artist takes to create the tracks and i must admit i thought that mp3s are destroyin the music scene but there not. Top guys from record labels have realised wots goin on and if you notice the charts now a days are full of crap music. So very soon the main charts where all the money is, will be based on the downloads off the net rather than single sales. Imaginethat you would have singles like queen number one again or delerium silence at the top. So gorgeous trance records that dont get any attention will start too. Lets face it nobody is goin to stop mp3s from being downloaded so lets find away to support it. At the moment not all mp3s are illegal and with ipods even U2 are supporting it why not share but find a way where the artist gets the money.
I miss the feel of vinyl but i love the new technology as in the pioneer CDJ1000s gives you more to play with in your sets and gives you a chance to be more creative in your sets.
I just learned that its not what you play your music on its what your playin and to entertain people, i mean thats wot being a dj is about rite ?? |

Be that as it may - I for one want something physical to hold in my hands, because that will last. It only takes a minor hard drive failure and all your mp3s are gone.
And no, putting them on a CD isn't the same thing because mp3s are not CD quality no matter what anyone tells you.
I have nothing against mp3s as such but the problem with data is that in 100 years it might not exist anymore or it won't be compatible with newer systems anymore. |

huh?
FLAC, AU, AIFF, those can solve your sound quality issues
I dont think charts will ever be based on mp3 downloads, the great majority out there still prefer them over the trance in every share folder out there.
hehe i think im the opposide of mystery, If I acually cared about my mp3 collection I think I could make it last 100 years. But tangible media, that stuff wears out and falls apart, data doesn't wear out when you play it too much or decompose over time or get melted in a hot car etc. |

And what do they have to do with mp3, exactly? |

What about those portable memory cards? They can reach up to 1 gig of space and the latest DJ gear is capable of playing them. |

same principle, if the memory card s you lose 1 gig of data |

| well, I always put the different sound formats all under that "stuff you can downoad" category. The way I see it those other thigs could almost just as easily be used as an mp3 could. If we were gonna support downloadable audio like the dude was suggesting, I would rather have a lossless format than put up with mp3s. |

You can say the same thing about vinyls, CDs, tapes and about any other form of audio data. |

I still like cd-rs.
I feel that a good Verbatim CDR is more reliable than vinyl. As long as you write it as wavs, it sounds fair enough too.
Collecting records still cant be matched as far as joy and pride goes. |

the difference being, if you break a cd or melt a vinyl you lose 1-2 tracks, if you lose a gig's worth that would be more like 100+ tracks. |
