posted my review in the toronto forum--thought i would paste it for my flta'ers
WHAT A FREAKING PARTY....i still have not went to sleep, but i have to write this review before i go crash.....for two days....what can i say but i love a toronto party...me and my brother flew up from miami to visit family and more importantly catch mr verwest in action. we are a couple tiesto whores who would never miss a 6 hr set in north america.....on to the nite

docks: first time here...heard alot of good things about the venue, so i was really looking forward to the show...coat check looked like a bitch but not if you go to the front and blantantly cut in line...total time 10 min...not bad after seeing the line and hearing the horror stories. the docks wasnt as big as i thought it would be, the blocks reminded me of Space but only 50 yds longer, kyrogenix were lacking...one gun? for such a large room..im spoiled by 34 NE 11th St.....no waits in the bathrooms was a ++ , and although some of you probably disagree....tijs playing in the booth instead of on stage was by far the best decision of the nite---nothing worse than stupid fans trying to get autographs while hes in the middle of making me dance...the booth allowed for minimum interuption, let him get in his zone and throw down a sick set. sound system was nice, all in all...a pretty solid venue for a event like this.
crowd: great imo, great energy going in that main room, smiles on most faces, people were lost in the magik and/or their roll. very friendly.
TAs: my goal was to meet as many of you as i could, i knew nat(tatgirl) from previous parties so i made her introduce me to many of you...(thank you so much!!) i was wearing the black shirt that said "tiesto in toronto" too many too name and remember but i enjoyed meeting you guys....LabourOfLove and last nite make my short list of my fav parties this year....i will be back soon...we shall party again.---in turn---get your asses down to miami for wmc.

TIESTO: rant=( i think this is my 15th time seeing him since Ultra 03, there really is no distance in N.A. that i wouldnt go to catch this guy play. when he is on his game, noone is even close to matching the energy/track selection in his sets..NOONE....ive seen ferry 12 times in the last 15 months and currently hes the only one on his best day (like his 5-1-04 SPACE SET) that comes close. sorry but paul van laptop and armin van anthem need not apply) rant over..
-----last nites set was pure magik....the boy was on point all nite, honestly the first two hours of his set was best imo-----besides wow-killa, interstate, and andy moor find-----i dare you to id two other songs in the first two hours--- tech trance/prog whatever you wanna call it---he was playing the most un-ID-able fat instrumentals. -the kind of tracks/sound only tiesto plays...and sadly most of those tracks you wont hear again unless hes given an extended set. (much like magik muzik nite wmc) those are the types of tracks that make the nite for me....who wants to go to a show and id the whole set? go to an armin show and you can do that because he plays nothing but anthems and the latest tunes from ASOT that are great but you've overplayed on your computer every week of the year. thats why i love tiesto so much cause he can balance his own productions/new tracks/anthems/classics so well in a set. pvd is top notch at this too. i saw a post on here about someone being pissed that he played some of his overplayed hits----if you think that during the course of a 7 hr set hes not going to slip in his own popular productions like Love comes again and traffic---as old and played out as those tracks are right now---then you are a ing retard. anyways as expected he played lots of his olympic cd+just be tracks along with a couple from nyana and some old tunes from isos series. i love the classics he played especially PUSH-UNI NATION at the end there..sickness....the energy level last nite was consistently high for most of the nite although a portion of the middle part of the set was downright slow and low....ahh the journey....im ranking this set tied with Magik muzik nite for my set of the year...but with the amount sick instrumentals throughout the whole nite - i want to give this the edge. after the show..my brother told him that this set was neck in neck with magik muzik nite and he said that they were just talkin about that...and tijs started doing balancing gesture with his hands....too close too call.....until next time just be!

holy ryan, what a bad ass review, it made me feel like i was there! i feel i can relate just a little to how nuts this set must have been because the tiesto wmc space set 04 was the greatest club night i have ever been to. man i'm so happy he rocked it for you! what a funny encounter at the end!!!

Awesome review Ryan.. I got chills just thinking about the set.. I love the Old Tiesto and the stuff he spun, perhaps the best trance that could represent the sound.. Tiesto has spun it and spins it.. I love classics, and I think that what makes a DJ is not by spinning all new stuff, but to do a back to back with the classics and new ones.. I wish I could have been there. Great review bro..

| for all you tiesto dissenters PROCEED WITH CAUTION, this is heavily laden with PRO TIESTO sentiments...that being said...wow what a night.... the guy who opened for tiesto threw down a sick opener, if this guy was a local in miami, i would be following him probably from week to week...as for tiesto....along with magik muzik nite one of the best sets ive seen this year, such a close call...i thought the first two hours were splendid, the patented tiesto energy surging thru the crowd, tijs very animated, VERY INTO HIS SET...then in the middle he slowed it down, things got a little technoish for me, but you have to realize tiesto is about the JOURNEY, he did this purposly, he brings you up, then lulls you for awhile then takes you back up, it was brilliant imho, and the final two hours were just mind blowing to me, with a harmonius mix of new and old tunes MAGIK-ly placed, OMFG i died when he dropped push-uni nation, one of my all time faves-goosebumpage...now im not an id whore, but i dl'd new trance all the time so i know a tune when i hear one, and i must say i couldnt id maybe close to have the nights tracks, he played so many dope instrumentals i couldnt id and i loved it, thats why i love tiesto so much, he always brings the freshest tunes, reminded me of magik muzik nite in march, where i still havent heard some of those tunes to date, and they were insane too..i love surprises...he also exaggerated alot of the tunes, like trancebrat alluded to about him at the amp, and that was so kick ass. i know i am alittle biased towards tiesto, i love the guy, nobody makes me happier, he's responible for some of the best night of my life..i just wish some of you guys could have been there, it was so mynt, i cant remember how many times me and ryan looked at each other and were just speechless, he just kept bringing it, nobody and i mean nobody knows how to place tracks at the right times and bring such unbridled ENERGY like tiesto, NOBODY(at least in this genre), and if you were there you would have a hard time disagreeing with me..when he's on his game, he's just so above everybody else to me, its not even close, maybe ferry, but a distant second, but i hate to compare..he just has that thing you cant describe...that MAGIK.....im so honored to have been apart of such a special night, and i hope this set was recorded, because if it was im sending copies to anyone who wants one, the proof is in the pudding...and sets like that justify his number one ranking...few can do it, you can say the technical skills and bangin beats of a pvd or zabiella, the well layered tracks and rythems of sasha, the originality and innovativness of a sander k, but god when tiesto wants to he just has you by the balls, the sickest tunes, and again the energy is unmatched....to sort of conclude on my review i thought the vibe and energy was incredible, lightin was awesome, and both djs rocked the party.. at the end of the show i got to speak to tiesto asked him a few questions, he said he loved my shirt "all i want for xmas is a sick hour tiesto set", i got seven, it was a nice way to end the night, he was all smiles, you could tell he was really happy with the way the night went, he should be, he was brilliant... going to do some heavy duty thinking and post my favorite sets of the year in the new thread, a certain someone already owns my top three, just have to configure the order.... |
