| I hacked a piece of wood one time. |

eh, Kevin Mitnick. i never really cared for criminals, although i am VERY interested in learning the tricks and trades of social engineering, the hacking of people themselves.
Yes, i do look to myself as a criminal, but not one who is here to damage files and steal identities. I do break laws with the intent of helping someone else or exposing their weakness before someone exploits it. Much like the heroic clerk who snatches the gun out of an attempted robber; fired the next day for not following store policy.
I do break into computers and snoop around, invading other people's privacy. My Documents is pretty much the only folder i look around and there are some quite interesting stories. Family pictures, letters, sensitive information and forms. Then i decide to leave a note on their startup telling them that they need to do something about their security before a darker tech comes in and steals your identity, the apologetic letter to an ex-girlfriend you cheated on, or some underage pornography, still to which i don't know wether to delete, report, and leave it up to him to erase those images himself. i did "bookmark" that PC in case i truly need to do something about it.
piracy takes up most of my computer resources. I have books, music, applications, movies. I steal lots of stuff. However, i have always felt that consumers pay for the best. the rest can flop off and rethink their strategies to why they are not the best and thus not earning my money. people who went to see gigli with j/lo and ben were not treated to a film, they were cheated out of money. my favorite movie this year has been Saw. I downloaded it a week before it came out. brilliant. the day it came out, i purposely went to the most expensive time (friday nite) so hand them my $12 and had a blast. went home and got a few friends to watch it and the cycle goes on and on. and so it goes on for the rest of the things i pirate. am i the only guy who actually bought Red Hat Linux instead of downloading it free?
i've never dealt with viruses or other malicious types of software. one, i don't do damage. 2. i don't know much abuot viruses so i don't want to damage myself.
I break into secure websites just for the sole purpose of alerting sites of holes in their warm blankets. and they don't seem to like it very much when i tell them "hey, fix that." i would just suggest everyone get out of hotmail before you get your information exposed. make sure u DELETE the account, don't just abandon it
anyways, i got work |

wait, did you register on this site just to tell us this? and why did you feel the need to tell us of all people.
I will hack these secrets out of your brain :wtf: |

yest there are ethical hackers. i'll leave it at that. by the way 2600 sucks. used to be pretty damn good back in the day. not worth reading anymore. But then again it started with phone phreaking.
There is only one time i did something malicious. But in reality it wasn't me that did. I let a person borrow my laptop who installed a Trojan virius on my computer. Later that nite i let my friend borrow it so they can go online. Later i get a call of my friend sounding fishy. I needed the laptop from school when i starting noticing little things going on. After a quick check with Commview i notice my computer was trying to connect to the outside (luckily my firewall did not allow it go outbound.) I started looking and noticed that a keylogger was installed. OHHHHH was i mad. I KNEW it had to be this one person who asked to see my computer during class, so he can get access to some of my accounts. OH was i mad :) . I gave him exactly what he wanted. I setup a trap for stuff to him to download.... lots of cool stuff... all infected with a private "viruis" it wansn't a true virus since it was not meant to spread. It was meant to phyicsally destroy the hard drive. It worked perfect. The next week i came to class and i asked him how his computer was running...Laughing and walking away. :) You see I never asked him to download anything. I never told hime about it. I just wrote information on my comptuer. Now if he wants to spy on me...his conequesnce for spying on me is of his own. |

when livin @ my dad's 2 years ago, i was excatly where u are now. so curious as to what i can do, but all the proggies i found didnt really do anything. guess i need to read up on computer security.
always been curious on security issues/hacking, maybe i'll take a few classes
2600 (altho i havent been there for a year now) IS one of the best places to go, long w/ astalavista.com or .org

what is everyone's ideas of hackers?
Its only until recently that my curiousity has been getting the best of me to try out some tricks from the dark side of 1s and 0s. As things are going on, i've realized hacking also extends out of the box into what 2600 calls The Freedom of Information.
(2600 is a hacker magazine)
Computer wise, i've been poking around in other boxes without damaging anything. in fact, i'll just leave a little text saying they are unprotected. Most recently i've been analyzing the process of security at some sites just to see if i can gain administrative rights.
While it is fun, there is always the need to fill my curiousity. what happens if i delete this. what happens if i lock that.
OR
email the owner of that network and describe the hole i've found and how to patch it.
as i said, the hacker mentality can also leave your box.
studying the timeclock at work, seeing how to gain employer access and program a 10 minute block of overtime to every day i clock in.
scanning cell phone transmissions while i'm working.
doing "something" to someone who filed a compleint against you.
is there right and wrong in the hacker world?
or is it that anyone who doesn't protect themselves gains no sympathy when someone uses his head to override your power? |

| I enjoy 2600 and wait impatiently for 3 months to pass for the next issue. I might be attracted to view the computer politics dealing with the freedom of information, the stance against the patriot act and other positions. |

Agreed. There are the few occasional articles that are worthy of a read, but I've found that 2600 as a whole has turned quite political. Sad, really. |

besides e-zines, are there any other hacker editorials? I got my first issue of BlackListed 411 and found it to be too simple in its "foundings." Not to mention it sounds like its written by high school/college party guys with their "ya dude, right on. thats what i'm talking about" atmosphere.
Not to mention 2600 will sneak in a little immature article about creating barcodes and repgramming coke machines. something to try on the way to radioshack. :( they shut down the local coke machine after i lowered the temperature a few degrees
(isn't there always a radioshack right next to a walmart? thats how it is here in san diego) |

You know who ask these questions? Script Kiddies. Script Kiddies are also the ones who brag on an international board (who mostly likely is not using a proxy) to post on. Yeah you might have some kickass "Progz" that make you "L337" The way you are speaking, it sounds the only thing you can "root" is windows "box"? How my i ask do you do it? My first guess will probably "hacking" some webserver or searching for open netbios. all well that's the end of that for me. |
