well, I guess we're still waiting for some of the MTLTAs to make a decision on where we should have the pre-party meetup... in a few days, if we're still not sure, i'll make an Executive Decision based on my complete lack of knowledge of the area, and one of epicurous' reccomendations LOL
as for meeting up inside the Bell Center - I propose the following:::
a few people have concerns about where the DJ booth will be placed, and where the entrances will be etc, so it's hard to propose a set place for meeting... how about, at 1:30pm (or earlier, if you wish ;) ) in a section to the right and close to the DJ booth (as in, looking at the DJ from the crowd, your right.) how does this sound to everyone? |
1:30 AM perhaps?

WHA???????
that sucks.. do you need your friend for the ride or something? I think you should go anyway!! Meet up with some TA's..
it's not for everybody obviously but some of the best nights I have had in the last few years is when I went to check out some djs all alone since my friends were lame too! (and they weren't nearly as interested in techno.. hehe.. minor technicality) ;) |

yep, i gotta agree kate!!
my fav all-time weekend of partying was this summer... i was studying abroad in france, and wanted to go to the love parade weekend in berlin... couldn't convince any of my friends to make the overnight train ride up there with me, so I got on TA, talked to a bunch of german/uk/french TAs, booked some hotels, and headed up there by myself!! met up with about 30-50 other TAs, and had the best weekend of partying of my life!
now, this is not for everybody, but it seems like there will be a lot of us there for this weekend, if you'd like to join up with us and party like you never have before, you're more than welcome!! :D
BTW, Kate, do you live in Montreal? maybe you could help us for some reccomendations for a bar/restaraunt/something for pre-celebration meetup :) also, have you figured out any ways yet to hear some techno on NYE? sounds like aria is the best bet, don't know their timetables there tho... and i cannot miss sander!!!!! :thepirate

Ya I would NEVER miss out on something like the Love Parada for lame friends.. hehe :eyespop:
I might even end up going to I Love Techno alone next year if I can't recruit anyone to go.
As for suggestions.. I don't actually live in Montreal.. but in Ottawa. I will be there in a few months though finally :)
I know there have been various places for other meetups but I don't know what might be best on NYE so I will field that question to someone else.. anyone?
Preach & Marco G @ Aria is the best option for techno in Montreal from anything I have heard that's going on. I wonder if Toronto has anything decent out of curiosity.. hmm..
they are playing from 7-12 it seems. :)
I may make a cameo after Dj Dan's set.. I've seen Sander before, I'm sure the party will be rockin also, but some good techno on NYE would be really nice too! :whip: |

The thing is, I live in Washington DC...
My plan was to take a train up to montreal and stay in a hostel, since at this point, airfare + hotel is wayyyyyyyyy out of my price range.
Well, being on a train for 13 hours alone, and staying in a hostel with a bunch of strangers alone, is not something I want to do. Especially in a place where I've never been, and I'd be lost and confused...not so great to be alone in that situation.
Even if I still wanted to do those things by myself, everything is booked up at this point, so I would have nowhere to stay. Being out on the streets looking for somewhere to stay in -10 degrees is not something to look forward to.
So I don't know what I could do. I would still love to come, friend or no friend, but it just doesn't seem possible.:( |

ah yes Washington.. a bit far.. I thought maybe a border state.
That sucks.. wish I could help out in that department.
on another note.. hehe.. you check out Buzz (Nation) much before it shut down? never been myself but I always heard good things!
If you can't make it this time hopefully for a good techno show in Montreal some other time.. be nice if there were double & triple bills still though. ;) |

I'm finally back in Montreal :D Man I missed this city...First thing I do after celebrating (the pagan Winter solstice holiday otherwise known as) Christmas with my family is get hammered and go out to Aria yesterday night with my crew :p Great set by Mini!!!
Anyway, after I woke up from my drunken stupor, I decided to scout out the area next to the Bell Center for potential TA-meetup places since I don't remember exactly what was where and how far "what" was from the Bell Center. Here's a list of decent and potentially doable options in terms of meetup locations:
Cage aux Sports --- Sports Bar/Restaurant
Address: 1212 Rue de la Gauchetiere, Montreal (inside the Bell Center)
Telephone: (514) 925-2255
Map: Click here
Website: Click here
Walking distance from Bell Center: 0 minutes
The best sports bar/restaurant in Montreal. Never been to this particular one, although I've been to every other one in Montreal and it's always great :p It's inside the Bell Center so would be a great place to meet-up, have some drinks, eat and so forth and then head to the rave. The one thing that intrigues me and that I'm not too sure of is whether we could meetup there early enough to avoid waiting in line for Celebration or whether we need to access the Bell center from a different entry point to get into Celebration. Anyway, this is definitely my choice, especially if meeting up there means that we don't have to wait in line.
Note: There are many other restaurants and bars in the Bell Center (Click here) that I didn't have time to check out cause I couldn't feel my face at that point, so if you see anything you like, bring it up.
Baton Rouge --- Restaurant
Address: 1050 Rue de la Montagne, Montreal
Telephone: (514) 931-9969
Map: Click here
Website: Click here
Walking distance from Bell Center: 1 minute
This used to be the old Moe's Deli and Bar (one of favourite places). I've never been to this particular Baton Rouge, although I've been a couple of times to the one on St. Catherine and absolutely loved it. It's a very nice restaurant that is pretty inexpensive (15 to 20$ for a great meal) and that serves your typical BBQ chicken, ribs and so forth. If people want to meetup in a restaurant, I'd vote for this place...of course, we would need reservations and thus would have to know how many people are coming...
McLean's Pub --- Pub
Address: 1210 Peel, Montreal
Telephone: (514) 393-3132
Map: Click here
Website: Click here
Walking distance from Bell Center: 5-6 minutes
Great Irish Pub. Well known by Montreal peeps, and for good reason. Great atmosphere, good food and drink, pool tables, dart boards and so forth. This should definitely be at the top of our list in terms of meetups, although it might be packed for New Year's Eve and is a bit further than the other options we have available.
Hurley's Irish Pub --- Pub
Address: 1225 Crescent Street, Montreal
Telephone: (514) 861-4111
Map: Click here
Website: Click here
Walking distance from Bell Center: 5-6 minutes
Another great Irish pub also well known by the locals. Great atmosphere, good Irish music, always had a good time when I went there back in my undergrad days :p I'm almost certain though that on New Year's eve, we'll have to wait to get in...otherwise, would be another great place to consider, although it's also a little further than most other options. Here's a review that I found: Click here
Brasserie O'Blitz --- Bar
Address: 1189 de la Montagne, Montreal
Telephone: (514) 861-5031
Map: Click here
Website: none
Walking distance from the Bell Center: 2 minutes
Never been there, so I can't attest to it's quality or lack thereof. From the outside, looks small and not too classy. They had a sign that read 7.99$ for a pitcher of Labatt Blue (60 oz) between 19h and 22hr on Mondays to Saturdays, so I figured I'd include it in the list. I don't know how big it is, but I did find this "review", so check it out: Click here
Hat Trick --- Restaurant
Address: 1012 Rue de la Montagne, Montreal
Telephone: (514) 989-1119
Map: Click here
Website: none
Walking distance from Bell Center: 1 minute
Again, never been there. It markets itself as a high quality fast food restaurant, whatever that means. Didn't look too big from the outside, but looked clean and comfortable. I'm assuming it can't be too expensive, so I decided to include it on the list.
Alright, so if anyone has any other/more ideas, please share them. Otherwise, check out the options above, and let me/us know where you'd like to do the meetup. As soon as I get a descent amount of responses, I'll try to set-up something ASAP. I'll try giving these (and other) bars/pubs/restaurants a call to see whether they're open for sure on NYE, what their capacities are, whether we need reservations and so forth.
Also and unfortunately, my cell is on roaming here in Montreal, which bites, so to whoever was wondering how we could stay in touch, check this thread, and if needed, I could give out my phone number here in Monty although it's my house number and my parents and sisters are here...so you know, don't call too late blablabla :toothless
At any rate, we need to get on top of this quickly, so let me know ASAP what you guys would like to do. |

wow Nick, thanks for the detailed infos!! McLean's pub or the cage aux sports would be my vote... irish pubs are always fun, but the convenience of cage aux sports (and also somewhere that's definitely gonna be easy for everyone to find) sounds like the way to go :)
thoughts, other people?
and sorry you may not make it beema!! we could always use more people for the Techno crew :D
Kate, Aria sounds like where I'll want to be in the later parts of the night (morning?>?) I hafta see Sander, but I'll probably swing by there at around 9am to catch the end of the preach and/or marco g :) |

Meetup Details:
Well, this is only a few nights away, so I decided it's better to have SOMETHING planned than nothing Looking at Epicurous' list for potential places, it sounds like Cage aux Sports --- Sports Bar/Restaurant is the place to make it!!! this place is literally inside the Bell Center, and sounds like a nice place to kick back a few drinks and meet up. So here are the nitty gritty details:
Cage aux Sports --- Sports Bar/Restaurant
Address: 1212 Rue de la Gauchetiere, Montreal (inside the Bell Center)
Telephone: (514) 925-2255
Map: click here
Website: Click here
Meetup Time: 9pm!!! We will try to secure a location big enough for a bunch of us, but we'll be sure someone is close to the door to meet everyone
Hope to see many of yall there!
btw, here's a pic of me so you know who you're looking for :)

:ALSO:ALSO
For those who can't make the pre-celebration meetup, we're going to try to meet in a section to the RIGHT of the DJ booth (as in, looking at the DJ, to your right) sometime around 1:30AM (although this should be a general meeting/chilling spot for the entire evening).
Please post pics of yourself so we all know who to look for!! :)
