I imagine the people who work in coal mines miles below the surface breathing in toxic fumes and never seeing daylight have it pretty rough.

The's the most dangerous, but I wouldn't consider it the toughest. You have the opportunity to make a nice pile of cash and only work for a week. It's one hell of a week, but I'd rather do that than be a physician.

I worked for a surgeon for a summer, they have a sick, sick, SICK sense of humor.

Good luck w/ that though, I suggest volunteering at a hospital before you commit yourself to becoming a doctor though, just so you can see if you can stand being in a hospital all day.

.. I sure couldn't.:eyes:

I am one week away from graduating. I did my surgical room rotation at a level 1 trauma center in Southern, CA. So yeah, I can handle it. :D

i feel your pain .. i have been on both sides of the world .. the "caller" side, and the "tech" side .. it's strange how when i am the "caller", i think the tech i am talking to is a complete fool who doesn't know what he is talking about, because he can't help me one bit .. however, when i am the "tech", i sometimes think the caller is a complete moron who doesn't know what the hell he is talking about, or doesn't know how to work the damn machine .. hahahhaa ..

but yes .. i feel your pain ..

It all depends on what you define as tough.

Physically demanding?
An extremely technical job?
Poor conditions?

Out of the medical professions, surgeons rank as the toughest. They can't cut a wrong bit (altho if they are quick at stitching it doesnt' matter :toothless ) and they have to know exactly what they are doing. It gets more difficult in complex organs, with the brain being the most difficult.

But is that to say that just a general practitioner has a really easy job? no! It will be tough on another level, with doctors in the UK being very very stretched and having to work huge weeks and coping with thousands of patients in their practices. IT may not be as technical, but it will be more exhausting, both physically and mentally.

I would say that teachers have a hard job. The future of society is in their hands. If they teach poorly, then the next generation will be crapz0r. couple that with rowdy kids, dumb kids etc etc and its not easy!

Soldiers, when they do have to work, have a tough job, but wars are few and far between.

I remember reading an article in a magazine about Tough Professions, and i remember oil rig workers being on there.

Yeah, that's nasty. I think some guys think that job would be cool, but that job would not be cool. It might make you lose your sexual appetite completely. Ughh. :nervous:
