Recently i bought myself a Radium 49 keyboard from M-audio..

It's my first piece of hardware for my upcomming producingstudio!
After the holidays I want to buy more hardware.. What could I best buy next?

A soundcard? Now I use an onboard soundcard of my A7N8X-deluxe mainboard.. should I buy a new one?

Or some monitorspeakers? (active or passive?)

or a mixer? ...

plz can any1 help me out :)

tx in advance!!

Personally I plan on buying monitors and a FireWire audio and MIDI interface next. After that either a Korg EMX-1 or maybe an Access Virus TI desktop if I can afford it.

Monitors if you don't have decent speakers. Actives are less of a hassle. A sound card would be good too.

Does anyone here even use a hardware mixer? I'm not sure why you would unless most of your studio was hardware based since all the mixing can be done on computers now.

get a new soundcard, since onboard cards are crap, both in sound quality and audio production usability. you can get m-audio audiophile, emu0404, emu1212m, esi waveterminal or some other good soundcard, there are quite a few out there. after that, some monitors should be next on the priority list - actives are less hassle, but i use hifi bookshelf speakers with a decent amplifier, so you can use that too. do not get a mixer before all that since the only thing you can connect to it is your computer :)

A mixer only becomes a necessity in a hybrid setup, especially with outboard FX. If I were you I'd go with the monitors, or the decent soundcard. You need both anyway so which one first is a matter of faith. I'd say monitors. That way you can hear the change in sound a soundcard can bring :)
