Unless you have a relic of a computer, you should have no problem with soulseek. I think the required resources are pretty minimal (i can't actually find the specs tho :( ). |

I just got an 80 GIG drive ... barely had enough money put off for that. Last month started to organize my music collection of audio CDs (that I BOUGHT), livesets, tracks - and make it all into an easy browsing catalogue of my stuff ...
I got mostly electronic dance music, everything from disco, retro to house, trance, techno, goa/psy, etc. etc. I got a "5 digit number" of songs, and around 1100 livesets ...

with soulseek it all depends on your connection, not really your computer. people complain about slow speeds, but thats cause of a router.
I WILL SAY AGAIN. I YOU HAVE SLOW SPEEDS ON SOULSEEK, ITS PROBABLY CAUSE YOU ARE USING A ROUTER
ive been using soulseek since audiogalaxy bit the dust, so for like 2-2.5 years now, and its just great. i have a huge collection, so feel free to add me.

One might make the argument that being one of 500 people to attend a gig for that artist which nets him $10k is showing a lot more support than putting out $2 for a tune that he only gets half of, or shelling out $20-$40 for a CD that he only gets a few measly cents of.
I'm just playing devil's advocate though. When the record companies are involved I have very little sympathy, but I sincerely hope that the paid download services gain more support because most of that money does go to the artists themselves.
- And Orko wtf are you talking about, not everybody who has a router is such a moron that they can't configure it to use Soulseek properly. You only have to forward a single port. Soulseek is just getting too many leeching users, that's the real problem. |

honestly, most people do not know about port forwarding, and thats why they complain about slow speeds. i tell them how to do it and boom, downloads galore.
people always complain about soulseek not returning search results, and not downloading quick. i have no problems with soulseek. simple as that. i want something, i can get it |

There are 100s of producers who also DJ, and TRUST ME when I say they barely get paid more than 4 digits to perform. So, um, yeah. |

Ok, but how many of the "4-digit" producers/DJs do you think people actually download tracks en masse from?
Most people I know are just looking for the "popular" tunes. |

I probably have 100 downloaded tracks (not including live-sets, they are different).
Of the 100 downloaded tracks, 90 of them have be purchased, 10 have been "sent" to me to listen to, which if I like I will purchase. I haven't listed to the 10 non-purchased tracks as of yet.
Of the 90 purchased, 65 of them are from the sub-mega$ producers/djs, 10 or so are from the uber-mega$ producers/djs, and 15 aren't even EDM.
Little producers' tracks outnumber big-uber-djs' by far. |

Hmm... apparently I am such a moron. :D
I have a router, but have never once played with it's settings. How do you forward a single port..? sounds simple enough... but for somebody who has absolutely no experience with routers.. it's not always as simple as it may seem to somebody familiar with the process... |

ive only ever done it with my linksys router, and this is how i did it:
open internet explorer, in the addy bar type in "192.168.1.1" and hit enter, then it will ask you for a username and password, type in "admin" for the pasword, and hit ok.
then it will bring you into the settings for the router, look around for something that says, 'advanced', and then 'port forwarding'. when you find that page, it will allow you to type in IP adderesses, and ports.
You type in the IP addy of your computer, and the port for soulseek, which i think is 2234. and save settings, and then reset the router, and restart your comp, and you should be good to go.
if you dont know the ip addy of your computer, click on the start menu, and click on run. type in "cmd", and then when the window comes up, type in "ipconfig" and it will then show you your computer IP address.

8 years later or so :) who still uses this great program? Whats your nick? I finally managed to rip most of my vinyls + CD's (many rarities) and sort all my favourite albums, online there under the same nickname :) send a message!
I know I probably opened a can of worms here, oh well :D |
