Woman Hits Steer and Dies; Rancher Blamed

LOGAN, Utah - A rancher who authorities allege habitually lets his cattle run loose was arrested for manslaughter after a woman was killed in an accident involving one of his steers, police said.

An arrest warrant alleges that Darrell Kunzler, 69, has demonstrated a 30-year pattern of failing to properly contain his livestock, despite repeated requests by law enforcement.

The authorities also report they have charged the steer responsible for the accident with wreckless endangerment and failure to look both ways before you cross the road. The cow has a history of noise and public indecency complaints from the neighbors which alledged that the cow would often cross the road to releve itself on their yard.

Yeah, the article doesn't mention any charges being brought up against the cow.

Guys the point of my critique was that the farmer is just as responsible for this "traffic accident" as the cow.

Cows aren't exactly known for their haste and agility - I fail to see why the responsibility does not lie nearly 100% on the driver.

Utah is a no-fault state. i guess that would be relevant if we were talking just property damage, howerever someone can still be crininally negligent when someone is injured or killed in this case.

i hit a deer once and totalled my 5 month old Civic. had to cover the balance of the loan b/c Geico only paid Blue Book value and i paid too much initialy. i frikkin hate deer. i tore that bitch in half.

n00b or noob means newbie or newcomer. Teh is the butchering of the word the. The internet continues to kill the English language one word at a time.

Well, if the guy has cows, he should keep them in some sort of a safe custody. Maybe the cow waited just behind a sharp curve, so the drivers didn't see it :)
