how long until a non smoker long time smoke filled environment worker comes forward w/ lung cancer and takes the company for all its worth?
a few of those WCB claims, and you can bet that WCB will stop insuring those places. Which will make them go non smoking. I mean, yea this will take longer and more people will suffer, so why not have the gov't step in now?

The smell of subs in a sub shop is something that is tightly associated with the business. The toxic effects of cigarette smoke in a club have nothing whatsoever to do with the business, they are only present because certain patrons decide to smoke.
Again, you seem to have ignored 90% of my argument. It's becoming fairly obvious that you either don't have a rebuttal or are too lazy to think of one - in either case, you're accomplishing nothing. |

Catering to your clients wished is called hospitality. Since it's the hospitality industry, smoking is indeed part of the business. |

In that case, smoking should also be permitted in hotels and restaurants and all other hospitality businesses. Bars and clubs are no exception.
And once again, I suppose we should also permit folks to have fist fights in there. After all, drunken brawls are part of the business, and if two consenting adults aren't allowed to kick each other's brains out then what is this world coming to? :rolleyes:
I'm done with you Jay, and all the other tobacco lobbyists. In over a year of reading your monotonous, rehashed arguments on this forum about how it's wrong to ban smoking and how unfair it is to smokers, I've seen absolutely nothing that even warrants serious consideration.
You want to smoke, fine, smoke like a ing chimney in the privacy of your own home, but keep your ing cancer breath out of the public's lungs. |

The law is bunk. They should allow designated smoking areas that are properly ventilated. They should be able to have a heated tent outdoors if it's clearly a designated smoking tent. And they should NOT be allowed to smoke outside of their smoking areas/outside/home/car.
I can't believe they'd make smoking areas prohibited. I'm not a smoker, and I don't go in there unless for some reason, I feel like it. Many businesses spent many thousands of dollars on these smoking areas and now they're being given the proverbial Government " you" with this law.
Employees don't even HAVE to work in those areas. They are more than able to refuse work if they feel it is unsafe or detrimental to their physical well-being. There have been more than enough studies proving second-hand smoke is harmful, therefore, they do not need to work around the smokers.
I dunno, I've always been a fan of compromise. And I think designated, seperatly ventilated, indoor smoking areas are more than an acceptable compromise. |

oh ya, and just in case you didnt know. This is exactly what happened in BC. Only after the first WCB claim the govt made places no smoking, they didnt wait for industry to fix itself.
sooo.....I think Ontario is ahead of the times on this one. |

Actually i was just getting to this.
Ontario ahead of its time? If "progress" means suing for every little problem in life then give me the status quo please!
I miss the days when people tolerated others. I miss the days when living in society consisted of give and take. Now there is NO comprimise at all. It's all the way or no way. Its not just smoking but in all facets of life.
Whether you live next door to a park and then complain about park noise. Whether you complain about someone having a smoke in a smoking room. Look at "multiculturalism". It started out as a good thing, you know the celebration of other cultures as well as your own. But then everyone got "offended" so now multiculturalism is more like atheism. Instead of celebrating all cultures we try to hide them all.
We need to get back to common sense. People are NOT willing to comprimise yet expect everyone else to. I say let the smokers have their smoking rooms, live in the countryside if you want peace, have a merry christmas and if you want to wish me a Happy Chunukah or a Solemn Ramadan then all the power to you.
Just let me drink my red bull, have a beer on the beach and relax, and party until 8 am and i'll be happy. In short, let me and everyone else be themselves.
