American electronic musicians are nothing new I dont think, its jsut that they never get as much respect or attention as people from countries where EDM is more appreciated. |
It's sort of a vicious cycle that in a country where trance is not popular, relatively speaking, there will be fewer producers. On top of that, there are fewer opportunities in such a country to push a production. The internet has greatly facilitated all this, but there's still simple geographic barriers that tend to get in the way.
Also, I would call Lawrence trance. It's just a unique style of trance that people don't hear very often any more. |

| Let's not forget about such American based EDM genres like house, hip hop, r&b, drum and bass, ambient, etc. You're all n00bs. :p |

The other day i was checking the nationalities of all popular trance producers, and i was surprised with the amount of American producers. Is this a new trend or something? One year ago there were none! It began with Filo & Peri, then came Markus Schulz, then G&D and now there are countless... Its really strange! The latest addition is EnMass, these guys are big and will become huge... I must say that the amount of good Canadian producers is groing too.
So am i right, if yes, how come? Or am i exagerrating, or isnt this a thing from the last year but has it always been this way???
What surprises me even more, is the fact that these changes occur, while trance is very small is the us.
PS i am aware of the fact Markus Schulz is German of origin |
fyi, filo and peri werent around before g and d or markus. not to mention rabbit in the moon from florida in the early 90s, 91 i think, not sure though. Also bt is from a ways back not sure how long though |

How is it a trend?
America has always been the source of great music (and crap music like every other country in the world). Disco started there, moved into house then techno all got their starts there. You ask most deejays or label owners, do you care where someone comes from, they don't, as long as the music is good.
Christopher Lawrence finally got his recognition this year, after many, many years of being neglected by the mainstream media and the clubbing world at times. You got Jondi and Spesh, who run a fine label called Looq, you got Mad Mike Banks who runs a fine label called UR. I mean I think maybe the world woke up this year and saw that great music is coming from other places besides Europe. Music really is something that crosses languages. |
