i just saw my friend who went to basic for 3 mouths and this kid was all.... brain washed. me and this kid use to do all these carzy things and like now he all like no dont do that or chill out and like i went to go give him a hug since i havnt seen the kid for 3 mouths and he was like no not with my uniform on u will discraise it. then he trys to show off by saying he has level 7 clearnce and he knows things about the war that i will never know and all this . i am just about tired of all my friend coming back from these camps another person someone i dont know and i feel as tho i lost a friend a person who was like a brother, all he is now is just a shell a shadow of his formal self. something that looks and sounds like my old friend but dosnt move or act like my old friend. when he said to me when i asked why he was wearing his uniform and he looked at me and said it makes me feel important like i am now someone. and i so badly wanted to tell him that what u werent someone back then u dont need to be important to be someone being who u r is more important then being who eveyone wants u to be. i am just so confused i feel as tho soon i be alone with all these shells in boxes and i will have to barry myself 6 feet down just to be someone....

1. military laws state how the uniform is be worn AND how to act while in it. Just becuase he's not on base doesn't mean somebody can't come up to him and chew his ass.

2. His clearance means . He does not have Top Secert clearance with SCI access. While you at it tell him there's no such thing a "level 7" clearance. Clearance do not go by numbers. 3 months bootcamp does not give you automatic clearances. To get a TS clearance it's takes about 2 yrs, but you do get an interium in the meantime.

3. He's a marine, (only marine goes for 3 months) Jarheads are always brainedwashed :p Being in bootcamp he's knows about anything because he would be lucky to read a newspaper!

I understand what ur sayin man.. but think about.. u were/are his friend weren't u? Wasn't he supposed to remember how he was and the kind of friendship u guys had before he left? I mean common it's not like he went under some kinda electro-brainwashing process! :D.. but anyhow I think it'll take him sometime to get back to his normal human self! :p

I agree with you, Orbax, and that would seem like wisdom if it weren't for the fact that they had a history together. It's easy for us to look at people's relationships with significant others and close friends with a very objective perception. They are weak, she's not worth it, etc... and our advice is based on logic. But life is made all the more interesting by the illogical things; I'm not saying you should seek this inevitability, but at the very root of things - who really chooses their friends based on strength and weakness? It's important to surround yourself with people who possess certain degrees of integrity, yes - but I don't believe he should just dismiss everything they had together because a friend has fallen susceptible to the illusion of glory.

That being said, your friend seems to want this. Puppeted feelings from early childhood - innate social engineering programmed into small children with ambitions to play soldier when they're all growed' up. It's in a lot, if not most, cultures. As I have met a lot of people in the military in my life, very few of them actually stay this way. The illusion fades when they realize just how much B.S. the military can be. You can very likely look forward to that - but I wouldn't invest a whole lot in it. What you CAN depend on, however, is that people change. I believe this is one of the most beautiful aspects of life - the capability to better ones'-self and understanding of their world and the worlds presented to them. However, much like everything else in life, a dark side to things lingers on the whispers of ambition, and people fall towards unrealistic or destructive ideals. How do people extricate themselves from this? More often than not, friendship holds and strengthens bonds between people durable enough to overcome any situation there is to offer. This may seem fanciful and overly-optimistic, but keep in mind that friendship exists at many levels, as does love.

Perhaps I am (as usual  ) making far too much out of this situation. You have told him your piece, and with great wisdom as well. Whether he chooses to heed to the advice of a friend, I suppose, is the only thing that will matter now. Don't give up on him though - people often look back on times far past before they realize what errors they made. Don't ever make it 'too late' for you to establish a friendship with someone once more.

Boundless acceptance of others may seem foolish to the short-sighted people who only seek to gain. Karma favors those who are infavorable as to the outcome of their retribution and thus, you will gain all only when you accept all.

Just never turn your back on a friend is all I'm saying.
