Video card burned out on me, tonight.

I bought an ATI 9700 Pro about a year and a half ago... when it was about as good as cards got. $310 at the time of purchase.

It burned out on me tonight. No apparent reason. Just died.

I'm going to try to RMA it to NewEgg tomorrow, where I bought it.

Anyone know what my chances of getting one this long after the purchase are?

Regardless, I have to run on a 32MB Riva TNT2 until I get a new card.

Painful. :(

Yeah. I got an RMA on a motherboard last year that was nine months old at the time of its death.

I wasn't doing anything goofy with the card... I'm hoping to get a cool customer service person in the morning. :)

the exact thing happened to me just 2 months after i bought the 9700 pro. it suddenly stopped working. i tried it on several computers to see if the problem was really on the card and it never worked again. so i went to th ATI website and there they have explicit intructions on how to make effective the warranty. i sent the damaged video card to their manufacturing office in Canada, and 3 weeks later they sent me a new video card  they will replace your card anywhere in the world for free!, those cards have a 3 year warranty directly from ATI, so no worries :D

9800 seems stable. Don't think I ever got the 9700. Think I jumped from a 9600 to the 9800 on the last couple computers I bought. Fried a MB and chip though on one and had to RMA it - now that's a bitch. Works fine now.

I don't do gaming anymore, so don't really care. High speed for my teenage leeches.

RIP on the RMA I'm afraid my friend.

;)
