| yea, the pre-loaded drum and bassline patterns piss me off, but u can clear them with 2 mouse clicks, as for devices just play with them. there are many knobs on some devices which i don't know what they do...experiment i guess ;) |

I have never seen fruityloops but I think reason is a decent piece of software. You have a lot of freedom to create music and it's this variety that's hard to get a grip on at first.
Is anyone here using Buzz to make music? It's a freeware tracker that is very modular and can generate awesome sounds. This one is real hard on your brain though :) have a look at http://www.buzzmachines.com (hum.. there it says: from now on it's possibble to use buzz with fruityloops... oh well :) )
As for those who hate the standard reason song template. Make your own template! Just kill everything you don't want (you prolly want to keep the mixer and the audio out device :) ) and save as "Default Song.rns" without the quotes of course. (Maybe create a backup in case u f*ck up) |

FLP + Orion is twice as better than Reason together, and thrice as cheaper than Reason. (Like anybody's buying it anyway...:D:D:D).
And if you have Rebirth as well, and loop software (such as Acid or Cakewalk stuff), it's even better.
also, FLP & Orion support VSTi, I don't think Reason does it. |

Don't be unreasonable (oh its a pun!)
I've used both and i found fruitloops to be a bit simplistic and unprofessional...They have the right idea, its just too basic.
Reason is very advanced, you can do lots of stuff with just the software, having some nice hardware to hook up will make it even better.
I'd go with reason. |

What about Orion Pro as good a Reason, beter then Fruityloops
Orion is a 'virtual' music studio suite for the PC running under Windows 95/98/2000. It recreates all parts of a traditional studio including sequencing, the emulation of a mixing desk and all wired rackmount hardware (Synthesizers, Samplers, Drums, Effects etc).
All calculations inside Orion, are done in 32-bit resolution - twice the resolution of normal CD-Audio. You can export your songs as WAV files, in 16-bit resolution, ready for CD - or in 32-bit resolution, ready for subsequent editing in a different program. If you want to record your music on DAT, exporting at 48 kHz is also possible.
Custom Arpeggios can be defined and used in the arpeggiator
All chords for the AutoChord function are now configurable, custom chords can be added
MIDI CC automation for VSTi's added as an alternative to the normal VST parameter automation. This allows you to record controller changes for multitimbral VSTi's on any MIDI channel
New effect added: Analog Clipper
New effect added: Stereo Widen
Compressor now has seamlessly adjustable hard/soft knee curve shapes
FXP support added for VST Plugins
DXi support added
Drum pattern changes are now undoable as well
The new Velocity Editor now works correctly for the drums module and multitimbral VSTi's
