Of course not.
Hell, I dont even think you need a locked groove. |

i just watched his video and im gonna guess you have to have a repeating loop like on his cdj
along with the effects unit, its not something you can do with just a turntable |

No, like i said, by the sounds of the scratching on the track I dont even think you need a locked groove (the equivelent of a loop on a cdj)
Either way it can be done with vinyl. Have you looked into scratching with vinyl? Dont dismiss it just because zabiela uses cds...beleive it or not most scratching is still done with vinyl.
EDIT: BTW the scratch techniques on that video can be done with regular turntables and an EFX so long as you have a scratch record with the "AHHHhhh" sample on a locked groove. |

| yes i have, you cant produce that with normal crossfader tricks or vinyl manipulation |

why not?
An efx with trans a record the same as it will trans a cd...its just using whatever source it gets it from. |

| but if you had an efx box (or prob. any box that has a "Trans" effect) and a locked groove vinyl as mentioned above, you could prob. get that effect. |

exactly, and also, for the track he mentioned which is called "personality" I think (not sure) that regular transforming may have been used by the sounds of it, rather than the EFX500. In fact, seeing as that track was on "4" the scratching might have actually been done with vinyl (Zabiela did used to use, and scratch with vinyl i beleive)
Youre not going to sound exactly like Zabiela straight away you know...Scratching takes practice...not cdjs. |

| He's right all of Zabliela's tricks can be done with vinyl and were originally done with vinyl. It takes alot of practice though. |

Z is definately a very creative DJ and has introduced some cool things into the dance world not to mention perhaps pushed the boundries.
The reality is that it's not enough to just mix records anymore. People want to see you get wild.
As the culture of the DJ is spreading clubbers are expecting more (maybe not all but those who are switched on yes).
I have a DJ friend (He is a pro) who said to me that he didn't think that Zabiella was all that. "He's just a guy who locked himself in his bedroom and learnt how to use his technology".
Before I get flamed to high heaven I have to say that I totally disagree with that. Whilst I have to say that I have dissed FS, my reason for doing so has always been the format. I don't have an issue with CDs other than people burning MP3s onto them.
The medium itself is well worth learning to use and be creative with. Why limit yourself to just vinyl?
I truly believe that CDs have a part to play in the modern DJ set as do well used effects units.
AS mentioned in a previous thread though, be wary with trance as overcooked effects can sound really crap.
Same is true for scratching... remember less is more. Don't over do it... just use it to give that something extra to some more repetetive tracks.
As for the trans function on an effects unit. The only reason I use it is because of it's regularity.
If I want to do real transformer scratching I bust out the short curve fader and start crabbing. Takes a bit of practice but that technique blows any trans effect (currently) available out of the water.
As other posters have said, don't dismiss vinyl turntablism. Those guys rock... although I would recomend checking out other people than just Q-bert (awesome though he is I find him one dimensional in terms of creativity).
You will be surprised what you can do with vinyl and I promise you that CD's have a long way to go in that respect.
I have to say though that a lot of it wouldn't work with trance but it's still fun to check out the origins.
Cheers
