Need some ideas for these pain in the ass interview questions on this job application. For once in my life I'm being serious so if all you have to offer is dumb responses click on another thread. thx
1. How would you occupy a middle school student who doesn't bring any homework during the required homework time?
2. Come up with an ice breaker/time filler game for 15 minute period.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Look up 10 words (5 letters or more) in a dictionary and write a story.
2. get in a circle, say the full name of a famous person. next person must think of another person who first name starts with the same letter of the last name of the previous person. |

i think if i were going to do an icebreaker, i'd want to do something to help get people to know each other. like say what you like best, what you like worst or something like that. |

1: Make him do the Bart Simpson and write "I will never forget to bring my homework again" 10000 times on a blackboard.
2: Make them all do the Bart Simpson and write "We have 15 minutes to waste" 10000 times on a blackboard, collectivly.
(yeah I know  ) |

You've got a point. I just remember having to do cheesey ice breakers like that for camp and hated it (promised myself to never make others do it). break the cycle... |

It's so expected though! :(
First impressions are everything to people - especially kids. Kids want to pay attention to the outgoing teachers who have just that degree of restraint which shows that, even though they like to have fun, they know their . It's very easy to tell when a teacher has interest in what they teach - you have to show children that. Of course, this is about a job interview, so don't let them know that you're actually an interesting person if...you know...you're not. :p :toothless
My teaching experience comes from Tae Kwon Do though, so maybe my classroom habits are a bit different than yours should be. Parents signed a release for their children to be under my control when they were out on the training floor. As long as I didn't do anything too harsh, punishment was unlimited if it so fit. I faced consequences of course, but if you talked out of line, you were doing push-ups, damnit! :whip:
When students didn't show up at class with their required materials (Nunchaku, Bo staff, Escrima, sparring gear), I had them pair-up with someone who was either in a similar situation, and they would run similar drills under supervision, or they would practice something different. I still had enough resources and time to pay attention to everyone though, or at least, everyone whom I thought needed help. Than again, I was a sensei - a "guide" - not necessarily an instructor or teacher in the sense that standardized school-indoctrination would regard. :happy2: |

I liked your answers I don't see why you need help with this. I also don't understand how you expect COR to give you serious answers to questions that just ask for non serious. |
i thought since most ppl here have the maturity of middle school kid they could give me their perspective. just needed some feedback thats all. i know i probably expecting too much from COR |

1. Take a look at their report/progress cards and go from there. Usually kids don't like to admit they are having problems. If its Math: Start off with something simple and move up. See what their weaknesses are and help them out.
2. Ask everyone to state what have they done in the past week that made them a better person. And one thing that they will try in the upcoming week that will make them a better person. |

i like this idea, maybe i'd modify it to one thing they have learned or want to learn.
the challenge of teaching is dealing with the kids who aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing in the right way. |
