Actually, looking back over the year, it wasn't really half bad for good material. It's just that there was a ton of publicity surrounding mediocre material, which made the situation seem worse. I'd put 2004 below 2003 but marginally better than 2002.
What I found most interesting was some movement in the progressive trance genre, which has basically been dead since the end of 2001. Nikola Gala, Dave Seaman, Quivver, Max Graham, and Nick Muir all put out some solid material. Sadly, I think it flew under the radar because of the ASOT and Miami Prog marketing blitz.
