Does anyone know a "typical" reverb % for each layer of a song? Do most producers add reverb to the kick, snare, hihat etc. and if so around how much in general. What about the bass, and the lead? This is in FL btw.
Thanks. |

I usually never use reverb on a kick as that most likely will make it sound really muddy. But some people will EQ the bass out of a kick and reverb that then play the normal kick sound at the same time; therefore just reverbing the higher end of the kick.
Hi-hats and percussion that is higher on the frequency of the spectrum you usually will reverb them. As for what time of reverb to use, I usually use reverbs that are long halls and big rooms |

| Reverb is mostly used to spread parts across the soundstage. There are no set percentages you should use. However, the kick and bass should be front and center so they probably don't need much reverb. |

KICK=0% Reverb
BASS=0% "
HATS=0%-100%
SNARE=0%-100%
CYMBAL-0%-100%
AND SO ON
Push perc forward/back+Left/Right in the mix until it sounds OK. Best tool are your ears

| If I use reverb on the kick, it's a very small amount. Also, I tend to avoid too much reverb on the bass, but I always add a little on the mid bass. The sub bass is normally reverb-free in my tracks, as I simply feel it sounds best that way. I add small to medium amounts of reverb on all other percussion, most on e.g. congas and bongas, but quite little on closed and open hihats. |

just make sure theres no reverb on the low-freqs.
anything else should be left to you...find out what sounds best..
u cant really say how much % to use.
but in the end, when ur almost to finish your production, go check again if lowering the reverb adds more crispyness, power or better overall quality to your production. |

| another hint, effects like reverb should only be noticable when you remove them (i.e. it shouldn't be obvious that there's reverb until you remove it) |

| Plenty of reverb on the kick if you're after that 'breathing' sort of rhythm on the beat! :D |

| Good question actually, I've been thinking this recently, often feels a bit random when you have more than one reverb type on your sends and you're trying to space everything. |
