It's wonderful to see someone finally stand up to the Toronto-Quebec Axis in this country.

You put him in a round room and tell him to find the corner

How does the newfie confuse you?

He finds the corner :|

Don't knock on a group of ppl simply because their profession doesn't live up to your standards.

perhaps the best thing that could happend would be that they actually did something else instead of the non-profitable fishing?

perhaps put all the government money that it cost to have a non profitable fishing industry in trying to get other industries to newfoundland that are actually making a profit and therefore something that might actually help develop newfoundland in the long run.

i admittedly dont know a lot about the newfoundland situation, but i guess we had similair ones in sweden.

My gosh.. it must be the cool thing to do nowadays. Separating from Canada that is... Alberta, Quebec.. Newfoundland? Whatever. Newfoundland is a cash vacuum like Quebec anyway.. we can let them go. Only 3 provinces in Canada have black ink. Ontario, Alberta and B.C.

Thats BS!!.... they deserve the revenue from oil. Already, those provinces dont have much to go for. If they got what they deserved from the revenue from Gas, they wouldnt be asking for money from Ottawa.

Uh wha?

Newfoundlanders are taxed the same as all other Canadians. They DO get the revenue they deserve from oil. It's just not nearly enough to compensate for how much tax revenue they suck up from the federal government.

Exactly!

Sheesh, just look at how many people had their jobs replaced by computers. What did they do? They got different jobs! Many of them even learned computer skills! Where would our society be right now if all these people had demanded government cheques instead of learning new skills?

Here's an idea: call centres. Call centres outsourced by American companies have already become the #1 source of revenue for old down-and-out fishing/farming towns in Ontario and Western Canada. Newfies might want to take a hint and start learning how to use a telephone.

I dont think Americans would understand them

LOL
TrueToTheCrew
Screw that.
For the first time in over 100 years, Newfoundland is in a postition where they can now pay back some of the money which they leeched off the rest of Canada when the where a have not province.

Haha yeah, you've got a point, but I think Newfoundlanders are still preferable to Pakistanis or Taiwanese.

(And for the excessively culturally sensitive, that's not a stab at either of those groups, it's simply a reference to the obvious language barrier faced by North Americans dialing into call centres located in these countries).
