Does anyone have an Echo Indigo IO PCMCIA laptop sound card?

http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/C...igoIO/index.php

I've read some reviews and they sound like they're very good quality (96kHz 24bit) but it bugs me that theres only 1 input and 1 output (2 channels each) and that they're 1/8" rather than 1/4".

I like that it's a PCMCIA card...I've been looking for something to fill that empty slot in my 17" PowerBook G4, but would I actually be better off with an external USB or FireWire sound card?

I could get it for fairly cheap too, maybe $165 minus a $25 coupon I have, so $140 plus shipping.

At the moment I'm mostly using Reason and VSTi softsynths, but possibly will get some hardware in the future. Maybe I should start with this then upgrade later (anyone know anything about the PreSonus FirePod?) when I get more hardware. At the moment I would mostly be using the sound card for monitoring (and listening to music) plus sampling and ripping vinyl, so 1 input and 1 output should be fine...right?

I've heard not so great things about M-Audio stuff. I think I'll go with the Echo for now as well as a backup/portable soundcard for when I do upgrade.

You're better off with the m-audio firewire breakout box. You'll have more flexibility that way.

How about the Edirol UR-80?

http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ur80.html

It's also got 96kHz / 24 bit I/O but also has a lot more options (and MIDI) plus a nice looking control surface for about $50 more.

Any opinions?
