Hi all,
this is my 1st post.
I've been listening to streaming trance and i ***n love it!!!
but as a musician who has a pretty good production skills, I *still* CAN'T make those KILLER trance beats!
All the lead/chord/synth parts I can do no problem: sawtooth wave with reverb, filter sweeps, arpeggios, sound FX etc, but im talking about the rhythm section, basic trance beat. Kick, snare (with reverb), and bass (usually with delay...yes?)..
I've sampled a basic loop from binary finary, and have been using it heaps in my own tracks, BUT i cant keep doing that forever! No matter how I try, I cant make a beat as good as that one.
In Reason v2.0, one of the Trancey default demos ('Realization')was pretty good, the guy used like 3 loops as well as the main beat.. but it still doesnt sound as good as most 'pro' tracks.
All the tracks I hear has that same irrisistable beat, the sounds they are using must be 90% the same..
How are these trance producers making their beats?!? Do I need an MPC2000 or what? An Access virus?
.. help...(!)
Emkuf
ps. I've also got binary finary live at hyperstate, and would love to know what equipment they used, its been 6 years, and i still can't make a track as dancable as the original 1998 - still freaks me out - how do they do it!?!?
pps: Im using:
Sequencing: Cubase SX (w midex3), Reason
Sounds: K2000, Juno 106, and MKS-80, and software synths (pro53, vstation, Absynth) |

sry for going totally offtopic here but Frase you really shouldn't encourage people to _not_ use the searchfunction
reason nr. 1: it will end up with the forum being clogged of doubleasked questions (hell, it's almost that already)
reason nr. 2: the search works splendid if you just take like 10 seconds to learn it and think about how you do a smart search :)
just as an example I did a search pointed at the production forum. I told it to optionally include the words beat, percussion, rythm, kick and snare. And guess what, 6 whole pages of answers :eyespop:
and to get a little back on topic. if you browse through the threads on page 2 of the search you'll find Mr. Mysterys percussion thread wich is an excelent way to learn more on the subject :D
Link for cheaters that don't want to search ;)
I hope you find something usefull mate :)
cheers! :) |

Nothing wrong with loops if you don't let them steal the show. |

I remember ages ago, 'Jungle Warfare' was the key to the Prodigy's rhythm sounds, is there a 'classic' Sample CD with all the trance sounds people are using?
Emkuf
ps. I sampled a (gouryella mix of 1998?) kick ages ago, and it is the exact same kick as Billy-Ray martin - Honey (Chicane club mix). I a/b'd them, and couldnt tell the diff! |
