blowing up an asteroid from the inside is not such a good idea, since you would need a huge amount of power to destroy it completely. it would probably just fragmentate, and then we'd have an army of bits and pieces coming our way.

experts have shown that the best way to save Earth from impact is to deflect the asteroid, to have a couple of nuclear missiles explode right next to it. that way it won't split up into small fragments and it will change its course by an inch or two. that's enough to avoid Earth, providing the astronomers detect the object in time of course. i don't know the exact numbers though, so i wouldn't know if this method will be helpful in this case.

Make that an Atom bomb.

Far stronger than Nuclear. like 1000x.

But seriously, this things happen all the time; but when they are predicting 20 yrs ahead its very unlikely to become true; same as predicting wheather. Chaos theory n stuff. Anyways i don't care, morally we've had it commin

And I think I'm going to have to side with fr0st here. A single person is smart, but people in numbers always seems to equal tumult. Though *you* may not be the person who desires to go and rape and pillage...uh, how shall I say this? You get to be the person who bends over? :wtf: :haha:

I dont think so, we had a power outage for 10 days here in a city of 250,000. Almost everybody had power out at one time, 10 days for my house. The majority of people had it out for 5-8 days. Sure this isnt the LA riots in the early 90s or a hurricane. But still, no a single person looted or not a single group of people raped, pillaged, or rioted a single time, I think people overestimate the human races natural flaws, I for one have more faith in people.

Anyways, if we do happen to get hit, I could care less. I have nothing to loose, apart from music, and I don't really care about that.

& were supposed to have people on mars in 2012 & a population of 30 on the planet *shakes his head in disgrace*

BTW: I thought Jupiter was a big ball of gas and if you tried to land on it you would fall through? :conf:

Jupiter is a huge gas giant and is the biggest planet in our solar system so yeah it's made out of gases. But the core is rocky but some suspect it may be lava. So if u fall into the middle first u die from gas but if not then u get smashed onto a rock core.

...I was a geek in primary school. Still am

The time of the beginning of the end is not for us to know.

I hope you're right. Death panic is far more powerful than power-outage though. When the immediate threat of death sets into people, it elicits primitive urges to do whatever is necessary for survival - social inhibition is set aside, as is rationality. I would consider it akin to the shower rooms the Nazis used in WWII - when they would herd purported untermensch into a plain, white, tiled room and set out the Zyklon, people did everything (fruitlessly) to escape to somewhere else - anywhere else. They would claw and spit at one another, expel vomit and feces, all the while climbing atop each other in some futile attempt to escape the inevitable. Though I cannot prove that humans would react in this way in the situation we are postulating, I can however look at the breadth of human condition that fosters such innate, primal fear and creates almost all eventual tumult on Earth in the first place. Consider that the world has a load of problems already - add the fact that nobody will ever get the chance to live out their life-long dreams and a hysteric depression will set in to the masses. I think that people will fail to regard anyone else for lack of absolute reason...but I hope we don't get to find out.

If there were, i would definitly bet against the asteroid, because if you lose, everyone is dead so no need to pay, but if you win, than you get payed, and no one dies!
